Hi. My name is Chris Wenn. I'm a sound designer for contemporary theatre in Melbourne, Australia. I'm also an early career researcher in that field, currently completing my PhD at Monash University.
In June 2017, I will be travelling to Hamburg, Germany, to participate in the 23rd Performance Studies international conference at Universität Hamburg. This will be my first international conference without the support of Monash, but hopefully my first international conference as a Doctor of Philosophy.
This will be my third presentation at PSi, after PSi #19 at Stanford and PSi #22 at the University of Melbourne. It will, however, be my first solo workshop presentation, in which a captive audience is exposed (for better or worse) to the full force of my thinking.
It's a big deal for me, and I am struggling to make it happen. Could you help?
How The Funds Will Be Used
I'm hoping my backers can cover some of the cost of my international travel from Melbourne to Hamburg (via Munich, because the flights were cheaper that way), conference registration and accomodation. My target is A$500, a bit less than a third of what my airfares cost. ($1683, by the way)
It just helps.

Flights: $1683 (Melbourne > Dubai, Dubai > Munich, return Munich > Dubai, Dubai, Melbourne)
Train: ~$120 (Munich > Hamburg, Hamburg >Munich)
Conference Registration: ~$170
Accomodation: $500
Food, transfers, etc: $100
Total: $2653
The Challenges
I'm an artist, and a student. Although this is a huge opportunity for me, it's not something I can jsut make happen. As I am nearing the end of my candidature at Monash, the pool of funding I have access to has run dry.
My task now is to get to where I want to be, and make it count.
