The Soldier's Wife Documentary
Over the past four years, as many of you know - we have been transversing across Queensland and other parts of Australia with The Soldier's Wife. The mission of The Soldier's Wife has seen a small group of songwriters who have turned the personal stories of women and families who partners have served in conflict into song. Over the past few years, we have met over a hundred women and their families and the songwriting team Deb Suckling, Roz Pappalardo, Emma Bosworth, Jackie Marshall and Kristy Apps have volunteered hundreds of hours in spending time turning their personal stories of loss, love, life and resilience and the challenges of being a Soldier's Wife of family into songs. The gift of songs to these families has been something we find very difficult to put into words. It is a highly emotional experience for all involved and these songs have created much needed public awareness of the community support needed by many of these women and their families - out side of the military. But our work is not done.
We feel extremely passionate about being able to create a documentary so that the women who have found their voices - can be heard on a much bigger platform than in a song. Our aim is to create a full length documentary so that these women's personal stories can be told firsthand and that we as the Australian community can have a greater understanding of the challenges faced by many of these families - and the stories of War Widows who - next to their husbands - have given our country the greatest sacrifice.
In August, we are embarking on a train ride from Brisbane to Townsville with a group of QueenslandWar Widows who are aged between 70 - 95 for their annual friendship day. We want to document this train ride and these stories - and the memorial services being held in honour of these women's husbands. But we need your help to do it.
We are volunteering our time but the costs to edit and produce a television quality documentary are well out of our reach at this stage. We also have hundred of hours of footage from our previous time spent with women and families that we need to edit and again, the costs of having this done on a professional level are out of our reach. So we are asking for you - to help us.
Our aim is to be able to have a full length documentary highlighting and celebrating these amazing women ready for Remembrance Day in 2018.
If there is anything we have learned spending time with these women over the past four years, it is that each and every one of them have given themselves wholly and selflessly and tirelessly to their husbands, their families and their communities. We hope you can help us get them the recognition they ultimately deserve. These are the women's stories, part of our history, a history that needs to be shared.
Budget Overview
The funds raised will be going towards the editing costs and colour grading costs that are involved with creating a high quality documentary.
Potential Challenges
We have built relationships with organisations including the Australian War widows Queensland and the Brisbane branch of the Australian Military Wives choir who wholeheartedly support the work that we have done and are very passionate about being able to share their stories. Our potential challenges lie in raising enough funds through this to be able to ensure it's broadcast quality.
