About Us
Burning House is a young, independent theatre company based in Melbourne. It was formed to tell stories that aren't often told on stage, and to put new twists on classic pieces.
Robert, James and Jess met at Monash University whilst completing the Bachelor of Performing Arts. Together they formed Burning House in 2016. They have since produced The Tragedy of Coriolanus by William Shakespeare and Ajax after Sophocles. Visit the Burning House Website for more information. This March, Burning House is producing their third show.

Summerfolk
Maxim Gorki wrote Summerfolk in the months leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1905, and the play is infused with the anger and energy of a nation dissatisfied with its way of life. But it is not a play of barricades, waving flags, blood on the streets or backroom political deals. It is a play set in a beautiful languid summer country property.
A large ensemble of friends are on vacation. Isolated and shielded from the tumultuous events of an empire in upheaval, these summer guests are free to enjoy life at leisure, in whatever way they choose. But the call of revolution cannot be ignored by several members of the party.
The play is an overwhelming call to arms – it is a gigantic invitation to live and embrace a life of passion, fulfilment and agency.
If you believe in telling stories, the power of creativity, and the passion we have for the arts, please consider contributing to our production.

This production is playing at Theatre Works St Kilda from March 23-26 2017 for 4 SHOWS ONLY!

How The Funds Will Be Used
Whilst the foundations of the show are being covered, we need your help with raising extra money to make this show the best it can be. We want the audience to delve deep into the world we are creating on stage, and become immersed in the story of these characters.
These funds will be put towards:
- Beautiful costumes designed by Carletta Childs
- A detailed, fully functioning set with all the trimmings, designed by James Lew (Burning House Associate Artist)
- Covering hire costs of theatre lights for our Lighting, designed by Marty Shlansky
- Supporting the masterful composotions of Liam Bellman-Sharpe
- Hiring a distribution service to spread our promotional material around the city
- Professional production shots
- Programmes for the audience
Any help you can give us will not only help the production, but it will also encourage the Burning House team to keep creating shows and pursuing their careers in the Australian Arts Industry.
The Challenges
It's no secret that the arts industry is often unforgiving. The Burning House team risk a lot of their time and efforts to simply learn and gain experience.
This is a profit share project. Ultimately, we aspire for this production to make a profit so that our Actors, Creative team and Crew are able to be financially rewarded for their outstanding efforts and inspiring work ethic. We believe this fundraiser can aid the quality show and help spread the word, so that our ticket sales can contribute to rewarding our Burning House family.
