Save Tassie's wild beaches!
UPDATE! We've raised our target to $5500!
We've raised our target to ramp up the impact of our schools education program! Can you chip in?
Education is crucial in the fight against the polluting plastic rubbish that’s trashing our beaches.
We've worked with our brilliant partners Bookend Trust to develop a cracker online curriculum and each year, we run an interactive educational blog where school students can interact daily with a qualified teacher who is embedded on the cleanup expedition.
Check out our amazing Coastwatchers program at www.coastwatchers.com.au
We already have hundreds of Tasmanian primary school students engaged with this awesome initiative, but we want to increase the impact of our education program across Australia!
Can you chip in and help us:
- Extend the program to high schools!
- Reach more schools AND more students across Australia
- Pay for extra satellite data to get more fantastic pictures out to the kids (it’s really really pricey!)
We've also just launched a bunch of awesome new rewards!
DO YOU LOVE THE BEACH?
CAN YOU HELP US PROTECT TASMANIA'S WILD WORLD HERITAGE BEACHES?
Tasmania's wild southwest coast is home to some of the most beautiful, wild and inaccessible beaches on the planet.
But a toxic wave of plastic pollution is trashing these delicate coastal ecosystems.
Every single day, rubbish from all over the world washes onto our amazing World Heritage beaches, polluting ancient middens, choking our oceans and killing marine life and sea birds.
Please chip in now and help protect Tassie's wildest beaches!
Luckily, Team Clean is on the case. Team Clean is an 100% non-profit volunteer expedition dedicated to protecting some of Australia's wildest and most remote beaches. The cleanup is a powerful tool for public education, advocacy and behaviour change. It plays a unique part in the global campaign to tackle marine debris, protect our oceans and promote smart and practical solutions to this mega problem.
This March, a dedicated team of hardy volunteers will embark on Team Clean's annual expedition to the remote south west coast of Tasmania. They'll be slogging their guts out to clean up the mountain of rubbish that washes up on the spectacular beaches of the World Heritage Area.
71,366 pieces of dirty, polluting rubbish.
That is not a typo. In 2017, Team Clean removed 71,366 pieces of rubbish from the sand, dunes, coastal vegetation, rockpools and waterways of the World Heritage Area. We know this because every single night, after a long and hard day's work, the team painstakingly counts and classifies a mountain of trash on deck.
Since 1999, this dedicated team of Tasmania's most extreme beach cleaners have removed and documented almost half a million pieces of rubbish from the World Heritage Area.
Team Clean are committed to making 2018 the biggest cleanup yet! We've got a cracker crew of highly-skilled legends who are absolutely frothing to head west and tackle that toxic wave of plastic head on.
Will you help us?
Cleaning up these incredibly remote ecosystems doesn’t come cheap. By donating to this 100% non-profit volunteer expedition, you can do your bit to support Team Clean and help us protect these beautiful wild places.

Budget Overview
Cleaning up some of the world’s most remote and inaccessible beaches does not come cheap.
The majority of beaches targeted by the cleanup are accessible only by sea via fishing boats and dinghies, piloted by some of Tasmania's finest and most highly-skilled skippers, who volunteer their time to make sure the team gets ashore safely.
By making a donation to this 100% volunteer-run non-profit initiative, you will be contributing to:
- The significant transport costs required to access these remote areas
- High energy food to keep our hardy volunteers out on the beaches and cleaning for as long as possible each day
- The purchasing of essential tools to help us with the rubbish collection and with the important collection of data, so we can measure not only our progress, but the long term impacts of marine debris on the wild beaches of Tasmania’s west coast
Potential Challenges
Our biggest challenge is the sheer quantity of polluting rubbish!
That's why we hand pick a team of the most hard-working, passionate, experienced, fit and super speedy cleanup ninja legends from across the country. If there was an extreme beach cleaning Olympics, Team Clean would be bringing home ALL of the gold. They volunteer their expertise and their holidays because they really love the ocean and they really don't like plastic. They're also a pretty lovely bunch of humans :)
By cleaning up the wild beaches of Tasmania’s World Heritage Area annually, and using the project as an important tool to educate, inspire and activate the Australian community, Team Clean makes an important contribution to the global campaign to clean up our marine environment.
It's not called the wild west for nothing!
Another serious challenge for the team is to reach as many beaches, for as many hours as possible, for as many days as possible, during the annual cleanup. Tasmania’s west coast is characterised by its wild and woolly weather conditions and some seriously heavy seas, which can make beach landings a kind of extreme sport in itself.
Luckily, we have a five-boat team of some of Tasmania’s finest and most experienced skippers, who have been sailing the wild seas of the west coast for decades. These legends donate their time, their incredible skills, and their boats to make the expedition happen every year, and to keep these beautiful beaches clean. Thanks skipper champions! And thank you, legend one!
Please chip in to keep these wild beaches clean!
