"I can no other answer make but thanks, And thanks; and ever thanks;"

The Raw Shakespeare Project was formed in 2011 by a collection of passionate actors from the Fleurieu region of South Australia.  Young, driven and fiercely independent they have grown from the most humble of beginnings to produce two productions each year and with their unique flair, bring a love of Shakespeare’s work to a wide audience.

“This is Shakespeare stripped bare, and all the better for it”

We pride ourselves on adapting script and performances to unique spaces and occasions and we are so excited to be invited to perform our 20 minute Shakespeare vignettes at the Shakespeare on the River Festival in Stratford, Victoria.  Our little group is headlining their Gala Ball and our crew are in demand interstate!  This blows us away!

"No legacy is so rich as honesty."

                             - William Shakespeare

In my mind, these really are words to live by. Our focus is to tell Shakespeare honestly, diving deep into our characters to discover their truths and do them justice.

Phoebe Shaw is one of our actors who really brought this ethos to life in our 2014 production of Macbeth.

We will be sending 4 actors (linking up with 1 of our Melbourne based crew) over to the festival and hope to be able to do this without the actors self-funding the expenses.  We need a minimal amount of $1000 to cover return flights and make this viable, but would love to see support extend to $2,000 to cover the full costs of travel, living and performing.  We live only on ticket sales and with our focus on Shakespeare, unfortunately are not very popular with funding bodies that are charged with supporting the arts and artists starting their professional careers.  We’d love your help to get there (and back) and let 5 of our best local actors, Leah Anderson, Mark Drury, Jean Millward, Isabella Shaw & Damien White, do what they do best!  Check out the rewards and theatre-love that comes your way when you donate!

"Dream in light years, challenge miles, walk step by step..."                                        - William Shakespeare

Over our 6 year lifespan our biggest challenges have arisen from council funding. Our first productin was held in the shed of an old winery with a $300 budget. Sadly our focus on Shakespearean theatre and intense characterisation means that there isn't a lot of opportunity for us to apply for grants or chase arts funding. For us this has meant a lot of adversity in establishing ourselves as artists in our own right. We're blown away with how far we've come and really appreciate your support in this exciting opportunity to tour our favourite production yet! Thank you for joining us as we take each challenge in our stride day by day and walk step by step on this very exciting journey.

This is a photo from our first ever production - Much Ado About Nothing - On the saw dust floors of Penny's Hill Winery's old stables. Yep, that's little old me, not much has changed; we have the same focus, the same humble origins, but a hell of a lot more talent rocking around our little ensemble!
