Based on Michael Gerard Bauer’s award-winning novel, Underground Broadway are thrilled to be presenting Don’t Call Me Ishmael: The Musical, by Christopher Thomson and Fin Taylor, for one night only.

Don’t Call Me Ishmael: The Musical is a powerful piece of theatre for anyone who’s ever been through the jungle of high school, needed to stand up and find their own voice, or struggled to find their place in the world.

The first day of Year Nine starts off like any other day at Ashgrove Boys Grammar, but things quickly change with the introduction of the new and fearless James Scobie. Suddenly Barry Bagsley, the school bully, doesn’t seem so tough any more."

This profit-share production is made up of a Brisbane-based cast of 10 actors, a band of 7 musicians, a crew of technicians and an extensive creative team. Also featuring original set, lighting and sound design, this is the world premiere of an exciting new piece of theatre. With your help, this new Australian musical will create exciting work opportunities for local talent, and make a huge splash in the booming future of Aussie musical theatre!

Putting on a professional-scale musical is no small feat!
Our initial $6,000 fundraising goal will only cover the costs of the show up until opening night, before we even generate any profits for our creative team or artists! So we need as much help as you can spare.
This initial cost will cover expenses such as venue hire, equipment hire, printing and advertising costs, licensing fees, front of house staff, and other materials required for set construction, costumes, and technical operation.

We'll be putting the show on in a short period of time, but we're excited to go straight into intensive rehearsals with a script and score that have been fully fleshed out already.
Without the funds necessary to put our production on, it will be difficult to provide actors and musicians with the materials they need, or make use of the Princess Theatre, a venue for which we have a very strong passion!

Any hurdles that come our way in terms of casting, technical changes, weather or emergency, we're confident we can overcome!
