ABOUT THE FILM

BROKEN is a short film about a family drama set in rural Australia. 

It follows the story of Tanner an Australian born kid to migrant parents. Tanner is a disenfranchised teenage kid who struggles to really connect with his family on any level and seeks to explore life and his place in it. But the things he craves for are adversely different to what his father has planned for him. 

THEMES

The film explores the decisions we make that are influenced by a past and how that affects not only the people around us but the people we love.  Im very interested in the human psyche why do we do some of the things we do, are we simply products of our past or how much of our social behaviour is determined by how deeply ingrained the past is in us...   

LOCATION

The film will be shot in the beautiful town of Daylesford. A remote house on the hills bordering Mount Franklin. 

The old rustic house and the vast landscapes that surround the house is the ideal setting for the film.  

We will spend 3 days at this location in the middle of September to shoot what will eventually be a 10-12 minute short film.

FILMMAKER

My name is Alper Kasap and I am a cinematographer based in Melbourne, Australia. Although I have photographed close to 15 short films, this time i will be embarking on directing and photographing my own film. This is a passion project that i have personally written and developed.  A film is a collabration of creatives and I have been lucky enough to have the help of talented crew members volunteering their craft and their time in bringing this film to life. The production designer for the film will be Adele Flere whos credits include work such as offspring, underbelly and the secret life of us who has volunteered her time and service.

The film has a total budget of $6000.  How these funds will be spent is - 

Props/Art Department = $1250

Lighting + Generator = $1000

Sound/Audio/Color = $1000

Location/House =  $1250

Film Score = $350

Wardrobe = $400

Food = $750

We have done numerous rehersals and auditions and the performances have been great. 

The location is so perfect for the cinematic cold overcast tones of the film. 

An amazing crew has been hand picked for the film. 

All the stars have alligned the biggest challenge we have is acquiring the funds needed to give the film the authenticity and aesthetic that the story deserves. 

Its using elements such as props, costumes and lighting to ensure whats seen on the screen speaks and touches the audience.
