We have discovered that areas of the mouse brain affected in human brain and mind disorders like Depression, Parkinson's disease, Schizophrenia, Drug Addiction & ADHD are responsive to the environment in which the mice are placed. The changes we see when we place mice in altered light/dark cycles or in different social settings or give them increased physical activity should help treat these disorders, provided they also occur in human brain. We have designed an experiment to test if they do occur in human brain and we now have the brains ready to be analysed. This crowd funding campaign is for funds to complete these analyses. By doing so we hope to obtain the first evidence that these drug-free environmental manipulations might be beneficial for people affected by these disorders.

The Challenges

Technically there are no obstacles. We have the brains and we have already processed one of them to demonstrate feasibility and determine cost. We will therefore get an answer. The only issue will be if we see no change. This could be because the changes do not occur in humans like they do in rodents, or because the environmental manipulation we chose to examine in this experiment is not appropriate to induce change. Because of the importance of this work, if we do not see changes here we will continue to look for them in other experiments.
