I believe that understanding and embracing cultural diversity helps us to become better people. That's why I want to create Clay LAB.
Clay LAB is a brand new space to be build as a place of cultural exchange for Melbourne's ceramics community as well as to create my own art work. Having my own and purposely build space allow me to offer community based projects more often, more innovative and more experimental.
Recently I had acquired a small warehouse, in Moorabbin area, to turn it into my studio. It is an empty warehouse which allow me to design it from the ground up. My requirement is to have a flexible space that I can rearrange it to fit with different functionality.
When completed, half of the studio space will be allocated for hosting community based projects including
- workshops by international and interstate artists
- bi-monthly artist talk and conversation
- a mini residency and ceramic festival programs
- individual mentorships
- a pop up shop (aiming for people who live out side city centre)
In the near future I hope to create a net work of like-minded creative studio owners around the world.
Realising Clay LAB is not an easy task and I do not want to do it alone. I would like to invite you to be part of this exciting project. Your support means you are building connections between different cultures, creating community networks, assisting the development of young artists and providing a place for artists to regenerate their ideas and socialise after a long lonely time in their studio.

How The Funds Will Be Used
Located in Base@158 complex, one of Cheltenham's newest business parks. An Architect, Michael Roper is donating his time to design the space to ensure that Clay LAB can offer a professional and productive working environment.
Your contributions will go towards studio facilities and fittings as follow:
- Electrical and lighting AUD 2,400
- Toilet and plumbing AUD 3,800
- Sink and kitchenette AUD 1,800
- Epoxy floor AUD 1,800
- Wall and paint AUD 2,700
- 4 desks and 10 chairs AUD 1,300

A Porcelain Key
A limited edition of symbolic handmade porcelain key to Clay Lab. Created especially for this fundraising. You may use it as a pendant, hanging it on the wall, leave it next to your house key. Just a lovely reminder that you have supported culture diversity through a simple act of giving.
