Sydney's 24-7 Street Kitchen Safe Space

is a completely grassroots organised and Crowd Funded Resource providing food blankets clothes shelter advice and support services to those who need them 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Our aim is to raise $10,000 to buy 50 bunk sets at $179 per set (https://www.fantasticfurniture.com.au/Categories/Bedroom-%26-Mattresses/Beds/Bunk-Beds/Kelly-Single-Bunk/p/KELBUNSGLOOOMTLSIL) , and cover associated logistics and other fees.

The bunks will be installed at our Safe Space site, increasing capacity to 100 beds. At 100 beds each night 365 nights per year this investment of under 33 cents per bed night over the first year in the second most unaffordable city on earth represents the best value for money possible.

Since we started at very short notice 5 months ago the Street site under the scaffold of the construction site at 60 Martin Place in the Sydney C.B.D. has become the go to place for rough sleepers and others seeking a safe place to sleep in Sydney.

A short five months down the track we are providing up to 45 beds per night - but the clear need is for double that number. So with your help we are raising $10000 which will provide 100 beds in the Safe Space for Rough Sleepers. Thats an investment of just $100 per bed to provide safety for 100 people at a time. And given that so far we are transitioning about 20% of sleepers per week to other options, it gives us the capacity to give over 1000 people a safe place to sleep per year. We will definitely be providing 36500 bed nights per year. And no, we don't charge Sleepers for beds. We think it gives the best possible bang for your buck and is so necessary that we put together this crowd fund appeal. We hope you will agree and support us. PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT AND NEVER WILL CHARGE FOR SERVICES.

How The Funds Will Be Used

The amount raised will be used to purchase 50 bunk bed sets needed to give a 100 bed capacity within the Safe Space and pay transportation costs. Any surplus raised will be applied towards the general operation of the safe space or other capital intensive one off purchases which advance our service delivery capability.

The Challenges

Without these bunks the 24-7 Street Kitchen Safe Space capacity is about 45 beds under shelter. We have had instances of crowding above 55 beds in temporarily to accommodate those asking due to severe rain. We forsee an expanded need to accommodate rough sleepers and domestic violence refugees beyond 100 beds and this crowd funder will help us meet that demand
