HNSA will hold its inaugural conference on 20-22 March 2015 at the historic Balmain Town Hall, Sydney. This initiative will create a community for the historical fiction genre by providing a forum for aspiring, emerging and established authors, historians, industry professionals, and fans of the genre to enjoy a weekend of talks, panels, debate and interaction about historical fiction. The HNSA conference will become a regular calendar event attracting attendance by international as well as Australasian members and fans of the genre on a bi-annual basis.
The conference’s theme of ‘Peace and War’ coincides with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign. The programme will contain general, academic and cinematic streams. We also plan to hold a debate between historical novelists and historians discussing the validity of research in historical fiction. Leichhardt Council is supporting the initiative. The esteemed novelist, Kate Forsyth, has agreed to act as the HNSA’s patron. The participating author list includes Kate Forsyth, Colin Falconer, Toni Jordan, Sulari Gentill, Deborah Challinor, Peter Corris, Felicity Pulman, Isolde Martyn, Nicole Alexander, Natalie Grueninger, Craig Cliff, Posie Graeme-Evans, Belinda Murrell, Elisabeth Storrs and Jesse Blackadder and many more.

Our philosophy is that all writers deserve to be paid for their time. Help us ensure our keynote speaker and presenters are monetarily rewarded for appearing at the HNSA conference.
This is HNSA’s inaugural conference. We have the encouragement and co-operation of wonderful authors who are keen to reach readers and inform other writers. Our challenge is to provide a forum where they can do this without relying entirely on their generosity. Help us make a noise about historical fiction!
