Northern Rivers Creatives
I would like to acknowledge the Bundjalung people, the traditional owners of this land, and pay my respects to their elders, past and present.
My project started as a way to promote and highlight the incredible creative community in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. In the wake of the COVID lockdowns, I wanted to create a platform to foster a sense of connection and community.
Through studio portraits, which I shared on social media, I showcased the diversity and vitality of the region's creative community, and aimed to inspire and support them in their work. I was able to fund the project through donations from the artists who participated, and they were able to take home a number of portraits to use for their own purposes.
After the devastating February floods in the Northern Rivers, I continued with my project, with even more creatives coming to my studio to have their portraits taken. With no options for exhibitions, as all galleries in Lismore were flood damaged, I decided to create a book featuring the portraits of these incredible individuals. My portraits attempt to capture the character of each creative and the individual struggles to maintain creativity through absolutely dire circumstances. The book is a snapshot of the endurance of the creative spirit in the Northern Rivers.
The book will be an A4 full colour hardcover coffee table book, containing 330 portraits, beautifully designed by John Senczuk.
