Hi! We are MZAZA, a world music band from Brisbane, Australia. We are getting ready for our first overseas tour and we need your help.
Over the past 11 years we have been working hard at doing what we love. After 573 rehearsals, 324 shows, 3 releases and two music awards we feel like we are finally ready to export our music to Europe!
Even though we met in Australia, half of us were born in Europe and our music has unmistakable Mediterranean influences. Balkan rhythms, acoustic instruments, flamenco guitar, French vocals… it’s time for us to get back to our roots.
We have been booked by festivals and venues in Germany, Austria, France and Czech Republic! We have saved a heap of money through old fashioned gigging ($21,000!) and we need you to help us raise a little more ($9,000) to pay for our expenses while we are there (see below for more details).
Through this amazing opportunity we will:
- develop new audiences in Germany, Austria, France and Czech Republic
- build on partnerships with European artists
- build relationships with venues and festivals for future tours
- experience as much as we can and return with many songs, stories and knowledge to share
The reality of living in a country with only 23 million inhabitants means markets are limited. Time and time again Australian musicians have had to head overseas to reach the next step of their careers. We ask for your support to help us do just that.
We have been blessed by a group of friends and partners who have donated their skills and products to enable us to create a really exciting rewards list, so we hope that you find something you want, that you give what you can and help us spread the good word to get Australian world music to Europe!

How The Funds Will Be Used
With your help we are really hoping to raise about $9,000, but we set the bar at $7,500 because we are 100% booked to go to Europe and we really need this campaign to work. Our total budget for this tour sits at $30,200, you can see a full breakdown below. Through relentless gigging we have already saved up over $21,000.
Every dollar you donate will go towards ground transport and accommodation for six musicians over 23 days. Things we need to cover include:
- Tour van rental
- Petrol
- Train tickets
- Accommodation
- Instrument and backline rental
- Extra baggage charges
- other unforeseen expenses

The Challenges
Well, it’s our first tour overseas… what could possibly go wrong? Seriously though, the biggest challenge is behind us. Booking the tour has been a very time consuming process involving many late night skype calls to people who grew up speaking different languages (our Austrian isn't so good yet) But... we did it! We have six years of experience touring around Australia, speak a combined 6 languages and violinist Greta has tour managed overseas trips with a 10-piece group before so… we will be ok! We have researched, studied, googled, asked for advice and we feel like we are as prepared as we can be.
