Lucy Wise

Hi, I'm Lucy Wise. I create and perform original folk songs, I live in a little town called Malmsbury in Central Victoria, Australia, and I am currently recording my fourth album!

In the winter of 2020, I was back home from a USA tour, in lockdown, like many others scared about what was going on in the world. But I had a bunch of new songs, and a deep desire to make another album.

I started recording the album myself at home, with the help of my partner and sound engineer Mischa Herman. The songs were all written in the previous three years, and told stories about finding connection after moving from the city to the country, friendship, love, and the growth that can happen from coming through dark places.

In May 2021 I released what I intended to be the first of many singles from the album – a song called Broadbeans. With the pandemic and general life getting in the way, I decided to ease the pressure off, and continued to work on the album at a slower pace.

In recent months I have had the honour of bringing producer Luke Plumb on board to help me see the album through to completion.

It’s been an amazing few months working with Luke. We share a common history of having grown up in the vibrant and wonderful Australian folk music scene, and Luke has a vast knowledge of -  and deep connection with - traditional and contemporary music from all over the world. We’ve been bouncing ideas off one another and dreaming up how these songs could sound, choosing instruments to help tell these stories, and recording with some of Victoria’s most wonderful musicians. I know the result is going to be beautiful - different to my other work, yet reflective of the diversity of sounds that Luke and I love.

The sound-world of the songs, and song list have grown over the past two years, and this body of work has increasingly come to show my journey as an artist and person who is continually learning and growing. These songs are very much about finding where the heart lives, and how coming through hard times can give us greater capacity for love and empathy. My hope is that this collection of songs is going to be helpful for people during this difficult time in the world.

There are 14 songs, and so I’m going to be splitting the album into two releases – an album and an EP – a kind of a “Side A” and “Side B”, if you will.

I have set up this campaign to raise funds I need to pay for the musicians, the producer, album photography, mixing, mastering & printing. In my fundraising target I have allowed for the pozible fees and any reward postage fees to also be covered.

This is an all-or-nothing crowdfunding campaign, which means I don't recieve any donations unless the fundraising target is reached.
