On the 16^th of August 2013 the Art and Design Precinct in West End, Brisbane will be transformed into a fairy tale wonderland, showcasing some of Brisbane’s finest emerging and established artists.

The exhibition and art event titled ‘Once Upon a Time – Reinterpreting the Fairy Tale’ invites artists to return to the essence of peasant folk histories by exploring the oral tales, myths and beliefs behind ancient fairy tales. This exciting exhibition draws together actors and artists creating works in media such as painting, illustration, sculpture, mixed media, photography, ceramics, jewellery and fibre art. A series of stimulating visual art and performance workshops are offered for artists and the public throughout the event. This unique exhibition generates the opportunity for 30 visual artists, 6 workshop facilitators and a troupe of emerging actors to come together as one community. The artists will showcase their work in a space that is vibrant, creative and highly inspiring and one that fosters and supports relationships within multidisciplinary art practices.

But that’s not all! In order to give something back the artists and organizers are using the opening night event to raise funds, through raffles and a silent auction, for a selected charity. Also we are donating a percentage of our workshop sales and all bar donations to this cause. Following on from the theme of the fairy tale we have chosen the Make A Wish Foundation as our official charity. Through mutually supportive relationships, the major goals of this event are threefold - to benefit artists, to connect with local businesses and to support a selected charity.

Our wish is to raise $1500 to cover some of the costs of hosting this amazing 10-day event. Access to these funds will allow us to pay for the venue, entertainment and catering for the opening night, marketing, printing, props and administrative costs.
