Ayumi, otherwise known as Gusti ayu ari pur nami, is a prolific young Balinese dancer living in a small traditional village on the outskirts of Ubud, the centre of the arts in Bali.
According to tradition, as a Balinese dancer of such high calibre, Ayumi has begun training the next generation of dancers in her village. This is done for free as the passing down of skill and knowledge forms the foundation of Bali’s arts and culture - A cultural practice that remains unwaveringly strong despite economic, social and political transformations.
However, as Ayumi’s family is under resourced and there is no space to teach the village children in her compound. That is why we would like to raise $500 to build her a simple training space with a floor and roof that will withstand the ever-growing rainy season.
Funds will be going directly to Ayumi to build this space so she can train the next generation of dancers in her village.
