Materialise Hashshashin's 3rd album
Hello everyone, and welcome.
We're Hashshashin, a three-piece band from Sydney who fuse psychedelia, odd rhythms and transcendental drone with Eastern musical traditions - and we need your help to finish our new release.
We've just finished recording and mixing our new EP, which we think features some of the strongest material in the band's history. It feels like the culmination of our 9 years of playing and writing music together, and we can't wait to share it with you.
But we need a hand with the final costs of putting together the record - artwork, mastering, pressing and video.
We're not monsters, so this is very much centred around pre-orders for the new EP, with a few fun little bonus rewards thrown in.
If you've enjoyed our previous releases, like nihsahshsaH (2016), nihsahshsaH (adj.) (2018), or Badakhshan (2019), then please consider helping us materialise this wonderful and strange new release!
What is this 'new release' you speak of?
Our new record is centred around original compositions on the rubab - the national instrument of Afghanistan which Lachlan has been obsessing over for the last five years now.
One track also features Evan on the Estonian tongue drum, which is surely a cool and mysterious fact.
In terms of the style, we're really proud of what we've pulled together here. We feel it is our strongest material to date, with a full realised sound and aesthetic.
And its about dragons and mystic visions, right?
Well, we're calling it Śaraṇaṃ, which is a Sanskrit-Buddhist word for 'to take refuge / to go on retreat'.
Our last album Badakhshan represented a long search across different styles and instruments to trying and find a new sound for the band, and mirrored my own journey across the area, exploring the culture and collecting musical instruments. Thematically and sonically, its searching and expansive.
Śaraṇaṃ, however, is much more grounded. It's a deep, inward journey - very focused, meditative and hypnotic.
While recorded at our favourite studio One Flight Up with Dan Frizza, we chose to record additional material at home, and mix the record ourselves. Evan has done a fantastic job realising the album's sound.
Here's the album art, created by our long-time collaborator Sam Harwood:
Tracklisting
Ghanzi (Avidyā) [6:08]
Haḍḍa (Dhyāna) [9:30]

Please help us make this record a reality. Thank you.
