That's Amore! is a bold new Australian musical led by an exciting, diverse team of theatremakers. Dean Drieberg (Hamilton Resident Director) and Sonya Suares (The Lucky Country) represent the South Asian diasporic voice in a musical that reflects the experience of generations of migrants who take risks and traverse boundaries. Together they have brought together an outstanding team of key creatives including composer Zak Pid (Peacemongers) and co-composer Rob Tripolino / lyricist Hugo Chiarella, the dynamic duo behind Dreamsong.

That's Amore! is a "then and now" tale that charts the improbable ship romance between Maya and Carlo aboard the SS Galilieo Galilei - a ship purpose-built for the Italian Australian migration route in the 1960s - as well as the contemporary story of their descendents in the aftermath of their passing. Daughter Mathilde and grand-daughter Flick are estranged, torn apart by different definitions of love and culture. Now forced together to deal with a bizarre and problematic inheritance - a stash of ivory that's sitting undocumented in the attic - they must piece together the puzzle of Maya and Carlo's 1963 journey to solve the mystery of the elephant tusks. In doing so, they reconnect to who their parents/ grandparents actually were - adventurers who stepped undaunted into uncharted territory and embraced the unknown.

Our fearless creative team are seeking some equally passionate visionaries who believe in the power of storytelling to create change. We have generated a lot of excitement from some of Australia's leading theatrical producers to develop this large-scale work - all we need now is modest seed funding to support a one-week development in Sydney leading up to a first showing.
