Help Put Our Tracks On Wax!
Three time ARIA Award nominee Danny Widdicombe,
and three time Qld Music Award finalist Dana Gehrman
need your help to get their new TRACKS on WAX!
What happens when two musicians from the same town, with a lot of the same friends, both have new albums being released in the same month and they both need the same money to press vinyl???
In this case, we decided to pool our resources, create a new label (Futurfonic), and help each other reach our goals.
Both our albums are ready to go and are completely self-funded. We just need your help to make our aural fixations a physical reality. We need your help to get our tracks on wax!
We’re both part of the new Brisbane music collective called ‘Futurfonic’, which also includes Danny’s band The Honey Sliders, multi award winning instrumental trio Trichotomy, the graphic art of Borley Design, and the audio production skills of Yanto Browning from Pacific Reach. Both our albums are due to be released in July 2019 through Futurfonic, essentially launching a new label with the simultaneous release of two new, original albums out of Brisbane, Qld.
You can buy either or both of our albums on vinyl, cd or digital download, have either one of us come play at your place for a house concert with our bands, get some music lessons from the Trichotomy guys, or we’ll come play your house party together as a duo. There are tickets to our listening party available, you can order prints of Danny’s moon and eclipse pictures, or a couple of guitar pedals that Dana’s dad makes. Or you can simply be a philanthropic hero by paying for the manufacturing for both our vinyl!
Dana Gehrman - ‘Find a Way’
Dana’s debut album ‘Find a Way’ was co-produced and co-written with Danny Widdicombe. The band fleshing out the tracks are Danny’s regular jook-joint band called The Honey Sliders, featuring Dan Mansfield, Chris ‘Bos’ Bosley and Ben Carstens. Along with Danny and the Honey Sliders are guest appearances from Tim Rogers, Dave Orr, Abbie Cardwell, and a horn section. The album was recorded live over three solid days in Airlock Studios (owned by Ian Haug from Powderfinger / The Church) with engineering and mixing by Yanto Browning (Pacific Reach). These eleven tracks sound fresh in their respectfully anachronistic style. This is a seventies groove based good time record.
After Tim Rogers appeared on the Widdicombe penned title track, ‘Find a Way’, he later asked Dana to support his national tour ‘The Endless Cycle of Maintenance’. Since then, there has been a flurry of activity in the Dana Gehrman camp, constantly playing up and down the east coast to rapt audiences who appreciate her dedication to the retro sound that was so formative for her love of music.
Dana will be touring to launch her debut album through August. Stay tuned for more info.
Danny Widdicombe and Trichotomy – ‘Between the Lines’
In 2018, Danny had a new album of songs written that didn’t suit either of his bands, The Wilson Pickers, or the Honey Sliders. Looking left of field, he asked his mate Sean from the instrumental trio Trichotomy to collaborate and record these new tunes. Trichotomy are a multi award winning, instrumental, experimental trio featuring Sean Foran, John Parker and Samuel Vincent. Danny’s songs and Trichotomy’s musical instincts were an immediate and satisfying confluence of musical styles
The end result from the recording was the new album called ‘Between the Lines’. Ten tracks including two instrumentals. The recordings were augmented by Danny playing his beautiful pedal steel, Kristin Berardi and Danny’s daughter India Widdicombe on backing vocals, along with Luke ‘Fiddleboy’ Moller on strings and Dan Mansfield on Hammond. This album is sounding lush!
You can watch this album played live in its entirety as a part of the 2019 Queensland Music Festival.
