Digital life shouldn’t be anti-social.
Imagine if our digital interactions can break the boundaries of our phones to our physical surroundings. Imagine if digital interactions can become a fun game about interacting with our environment and with people around us.
Facewall is an interactive art installation that builds this digital-physical connection. A social event designed to stimulate curiosity, this exhibition will be held at Federation Square, Melbourne.

An Urban Art
Facewall is a wall made up of a grid of lamps with filtered art graphics of your faces. We invite you to take selfies and upload them to a random spot on the wall. You’ll be able to download your selfie art if you can find your face among many faces on the wall within 5 minutes.
We want you to look up, not down at your phone, when you play this game. We want you to inspect the faces on the wall, and also check out the people next to you playing the same game. We want you to interact not just with the wall, but with these people, and make new friends.
This is social media networking in a progressive, sociable and physical way. And we want you to be part of it.
We designed Facewall with love to make sure that it is meaningful and sustainable. After the exhibition, the wall structure will be deconstructed and transformed into furniture sets so that there is minimum wastage. The artistic lamp components will be decommissioned into GRAPHITE and LEGACY LAMPS, some of which to be given away to our backers as art artefacts. In a way, the artwork lives on in a different form beyond its exhibited lifespan.
GRAPHITE LAMPS
Exclusive lamp with ‘e-ink' screen that displays your images when you upload them digitally. E-ink technology (found in e-readers like kindle) is environmentally sustainable and does not consume power to maintain a displayed image.
Your kind contribution will mainly be used to develop Graphite Lamps- the interactive heart of Facewall. These lamps are art artefacts, not consumer products. Graphite Lamps are not functional independently and therefore not available to our backers.
LEGACY LAMPS
We begin by creating an elegant art graphic of your face from your photograph. This custom design is crafted into a Legacy Lamp as a silhouette cut from its shell. When lit, it creates beautiful shadows, perfect as an object on your desk or wall.
Legacy Lamps are not digital. They will be given away to our backers as artefacts from the exhibition.

DELIVERY
We do both domestic and international delivery for all tiers except Re-purposed Art and The Artefact Collection. A small handling fee will occur for overseas shipping as stated on reward tiers.
Once the campaign ends, we will ask you to provide the address you want your order to be delivered.

This includes tooling, electrical and circuitry components, e-ink screens, arduino boards, lighting and sonsor controllers, raspberry pis, casing fabrication, structure and construction, manpower, not to mention administrative and logistics cost.
Your contributions will go towards building a stronger message. We're building wall panel by wall panel. If we hit our extended stretch goals, we get the full wall with the letters: 'FACE', for the full effect.

As the Graphite Lamps are costly to make due to their customized nature, we have mitigated the risk by financially planning for a mixed configuration with the other half of the wall comprised of the less expensive Legacy Lamp. As part of our stretch goals, we will strive for a full wall of Graphite Lamps if we get additional funding. Please contribute and help us achieve a full GRAPHITE wall!
ART. NOT PRODUCT.
We emphasize that this is an art installation, not a commercial product. Our Legacy Lamps and Graphite Lamps are given away as decommissioned artefacts after the exhibition in their existing condition. Of course, we will take good care to make sure that they look great before we hand them over to you.
PROJECT DELIVERY.
Some components are manufactured overseas, there may be unforeseen circumstances on shipping which may result in delay. We strive our best to ensure the project will be installed on time, however, we will keep you informed if the exhibition date has been adjusted.
