Since the disaster hit the region in late February, the Arts Northern Rivers team have been dedicating their time to advocate and fundraise for flood relief and recovery funding to directly assist individuals and organisations impacted by the devastating floods in the Northern Rivers.
The creative sector across the entire region has collectively suffered untold losses: galleries losing entire collections, studios, equipment, and artworks in ruin, and livelihoods in freefall.
Following successful immediate rapid response rounds of funding support delivered to the region, which saw $200,000 provided to the recovery of independent artists affected, Arts Northern Rivers is now advocating for the essential medium to long term recovery, so far delivering over $50,000 to the sector in foundational strategies for the short to medium term. Small to medium organisations are suffering greatly, and it will take years to come through this. These organisations play an essential role in the region’s creative recovery and Arts Northern rivers is advocating for infrastructure support across all levels of government, business and the sector.
