Simon Rountree, CEO Camp Quality

"This is a big innovation for us. It's the first time we have launched a product for Australians to purchase. We know that Aussies buy 23 million boxes of crackers annually, so this year we're simply asking them to support Camp Quality children and their families, who may not have the opportunity to be at home celebrating together this year."

Creating the pitch and campaign

Simon Rountree, CEO of camp quality said; "Christmas is a time of year for families to come together to laugh, share, eat and reflect on all the happy times. For many Australians, laughter and fun is what makes Christmas so special. For families living with cancer, Christmas is a time of uncertainty, and laughter can feel like a distant memory. That's why this year we are giving Australians the opportunity to support those families, while bringing some extra Christmas cheer to their celebration with these very special crackers for a cause."

They enlisted the help of some of Australia’s funniest comedians, to produce a range of Christmas crackers with quality toys and jokes to suit everyone.

Andrew Barnett, played the highly coveted role of 'Joke Judge' - ensuring that all jokes in each cracker were indeed hilarious. Aside from being a comedian, Andrew’s a father. His son Teddy has been living with cancer since he was four years old. During the campaign, Andrew said:  “By trade I’m funny, so to deal with a very unfunny situation like my son Ted’s diagnosis, I knew it was important as a family we kept on laughing through the toughest of times. Camp Quality reminded us of the importance of laughter through our cancer journey. At Christmas, it’s doubly important to have a laugh.”

Each year, over 10,000 children are affected by cancer and another 130,000 children have a parent living with cancer. Every dollar from the Crackers for a Cause campaign went toward financing Camp Quality's endeavours.
