Youth Rooming House Renovation
Help SEMZ tackle youth homelessness!
On any given night in Australia, 100,000 Australians are homeless. More than one third are teenagers (aged 12-18) and young adults (aged 18-25) – that's at least 36,000 homeless young people.
We urgently need to invest in young Australians, and work together to build a community where homelessness becomes a thing of the past, by:
- preventing youth homelessness
- intervening early
- supporting young people in need
- stopping those assisted from falling back into homelessness
Our project
SEMZ in partnership with RMIT, PCYC and Salvation Army are planning to undertake a much needed 'renovation rescue' to the PCYC Youth Rooming House in St Kilda.
The PCYC Youth Rooming House run by the Police and Citizens Youth Club is low cost emergency housing for youth who are at risk of homelessness.
The PCYC Youth Rooming House provides a safe and supported environment for youth to address issues relating to their homelessness and to develop skills and independence to eventually pathway into a long term housing option.
The project is a unique partnership the brings together expertise of buinsess, university and not for profits to maximise social impact.
The project enables 4th year RMIT project management students to work on a live project that combines real world cross sector learning to address a significant and pressing social challange - ending youth homelessness!
Your pledge will provide the necessary funds for a desparately needed renovation rescue to create a comfortable and youth friendly space that will keep disadvantaged young people off the streets.
Why we are supporting the PCYC
St Kilda PCYC is an extraordinary self-funded charity that has been making a difference to disadvantaged youth since 1947. PCYC programs aim to reduce suicide rates, depression and crime amongst Melbourne’s youth.
The vision of St Kilda PCYC is to “Empower youth for life” giving young people an alternative to “hanging around the streets” providing low-cost recreational facilities, activities and youth social housing.
