Whispey - Short Film
The coming-of-age story is a staple of cinema history. But what happens after we come of age, and everything seems to fall apart - when all we can do is return to the comforting nostalgia of childhood?
'Whispey' follows fraternal twins Theo and Helen, who find themselves together again in their mid twenties at their family's country home. Theo searches for a cassette tape that can inspire him to continue his creative city life. Helen wants to have the brother that she grew up with back in her life. As they search, clash and ultimately love, they gain the strength from each other to evolve and move on in the game of life.
This will be an emotional, dynamic and complex drama that sheds light on people stuck in between the clichéd extremes of contemporary Australian life - between the city and the farms, and between studying and having a career. We want to immortalise the grey areas between these extremes in our film!
Dylan is a writer and director from Albury NSW, graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts. He works across short films, music videos and independent theatre, making video content for performance, marketing, projection and web. His film work illuminates the dark psychological depths of contemporary Australian characters, bringing rarely seen, richly observed worlds to the public consciousness.
Glenn is a filmmaker in his final year at the Victorian College of the Arts. As a writer/director, his work examines and satirises modern human relationships using the tools of genre and absurdism. He has also found a passion in cinematography, developing his technical craft in short films and online content. Hailing from Bendigo in regional Victoria, his upcoming film 'A Town Called Phoenix' puts a post-apocalyptic spin on the harshness of the Victorian countryside.
Anna is a Melbourne-based singer-songwriter and composer, graduating from Interactive Composition at the Victorian College of the Arts. She writes and performers lushly textured, beats-driven music regularly under the moniker Sault. Her work can also be seen in frequent collaborations for stage and screen, including dance work 'Bottom Line' at Melbourne Fringe 2016, Tallulah Theatre's upcoming 'A Dog Called Monkey', and previous collaborations with Dylan Harris 'Effeminate' and 'Fetish Eyes'.
