Thanks for walking our way. Our Pozible campaign was succesful and we are now producing the journal.
Walkers Journal is a quarterly publication and will specialise in engaging articles for people who are passionate about nature, exploration, food and architecture. It will feature walks along coasts, through mountains and in cities. The first issue will be delivered in early March 2021, along with an iron-on patch.
Subscribe to the quarterly journal for yourself or as a gift here.
Front covers are prototypes and are subject to change.
The quarterly printed journal will be of the same high calibre that readers of green magazine will recognise, with commissioned articles and enticing photography. The printed edition will consist of six recently-opened or little-known walks with a focus on Indigenous history, architecture, local geology and ecology and food.
Walkers Journal print will take the form of a 64-page quarterly A5 journal. It will be printed on a high quality matte, recycled stock. The printed version will be collectable, with the intention that it be kept on the coffee table or in the bookshelf for future reference – but just the right size to carry with you on your next walk.
Additional original content will be published frequently via our website, e-news and social media. Content will include featured walks with longform articles and photography, audio/visual walks presented by local personalities and everyday walkers and hundreds of regional walks from all over Australia.
We (Tom Bodycomb and Tamsin O’Neill) launched green magazine back in 2007. We have walked throughout Australia’s spectacular regions for many of the travel articles published in each issue of green magazine. Having been inspired and learnt so much on these treks, we have decided it was timely to launch Walkers Journal to celebrate the wide variety of walks in our country, for adventurers of all levels.
Walkers Journal will support Bush Heritage Australia which is an independent not-for-profit that buys and manages land, and partners with Aboriginal people, to protect our irreplaceable landscapes and our magnificent native species forever.
Walkers Journal will support Country Needs People, an ACNC registered charity and non-profit in Australia supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sustainable management of land and sea.
Walkers Journal will donate 1% of revenue to each organisation. Plus, Walkers Journal will support their initiatives via articles in print and online.
Pre-purchase the limited edition first issue or further support the new publication with a one or two year subscription. Further pledges are very much appreciated and we will reward you with beaut products from our friends at Knog and Bellroy. We look forward to sharing many inspiring stories down the track.
Note: International pledges exclude international postage charges.
There are many key steps to launching the new publication:
- We will design and create a website to showcase walks across all of Australia’s regions
- Peter Salmon-Lomas of Salmon Design will create the beautiful design of Walkers Journal
- The magazine will be printed on high quality, recycled stock.
- Issue #1 will be printed by our trusted Melbourne-based printer, Southern Impact and posted to you by Australia Post
- The rewards will be posted by Australia Post to our loyal supporters
The launch timeline is dependent on the success of the crowdfunding campaign in November 2020. The website walkersjournal.com.au will then be fully launched in February 2021, with the first print edition to be posted to subscribers in March 2021.
We are thrilled to have reached our all-or-nothing target and are appreciative of the support. We believe that with your help we can go the extra mile and deliver even more inspiring content. Here are some targets to help get us there.
Strewth! - $35,000
We did it! Time to get our walking shoes on.
Films - $45,000
If we hit $45,000, we can create more of the "Walking with ..." series – the narrated walks for walkersjournal.com.au and Instagram TV. These short films are presented by outdoors enthusiasts with intimate knowledge of a not-so-well-known walk, highlighting all their significant sights.
Patches - $55,000
If we hit $55,000, every subscriber will be posted a patch. This limited release iron-on patch lets you proudly show support for the launch of Walkers Journal. Designed by our favourite art director, Peter Salmon-Lomas, this fabric patch will surely be a collector’s item. To be released soon.
Interactive Mapping - $65,000
If we hit this pledge target, we can add interactive mapping to walkersjournal.com.au to assist with planning your next walk.
Thank you for putting your trust in this project. Any pledge, however small, is sincerely appreciated.
Love, Tom and Tamsin
