The Will To Fly
“The Most Inspirational Movie of The Year”
-The Huffington Post
The Will To Fly is an inspirational hero’s journey and the first feature documentary film to emerge from Australia on women's sporting achievments. The film follows Olympic champion Lydia Lassila to uphold her Olympic crown as a mother, but more specifically she seeks to write history by being the first woman to perform the most complex and dangerous manoeuvre of any acrobatic sport; aquadruple twisting, triple somersault on skis. Since missing her opportunity with gymnastics as a young girl, The Will To Fly showcases Lydia’s lifelong quest to fulfil her sporting aspirations.

How The Funds Will Be Used
The creative film team behind The Will To Fly, Katie Bender & Leo Baker, have worked tirelessly over the past year promoting and self distributing The Will To Fly in Australia. The film has been fantastically received across Australia and has made a real positive effect in the community, being one of Australia's first feature length sport documentaries about women's achievements.
But now we need your help.
Recently, The Will To Fly was selected to premiere at the Whistler Film Festival, one of Canada’s top main-stream international film festivals and also a significant North American film distribution summit. We are seeking financial assistance to cover flights (for Katie Bender, Leo Baker and the talent, Lydia Lassila) to represent the film so we have the opportunity to meet with the film distributors. It’s crucial to be there in person, to find the best North American distributor, to extend our audiences worldwide. Having Lydia in attendance will mean we can attract greater media around the film and best achieve our intentions.
The Challenges
Raising flight costs is going to provide us with the best opportunity to take our full feature length documentary of such merit to the next level, with the momentum of the Whistler Festival and your help our film has every chance of succeeding further on the international stage.
Thanks for taking time to visit and read our objectives, we really appreciate it.
