The story of MyRnR (previously known as parent company Sleep Hotel) started in the winter of 2022 when one sick and tired mum-of-two-under-five who was desperate for a couple hours’ sleep called her local motel, just before dinner time, begging to book in first thing Sunday morning (when her husband was home). The empathetic owner happened to have one room available and agreed to her renting it for three hours. The very tired mummy was super grateful. But it was a one-off. The phone call took guts and created fights, the actual sleep was about four minutes (for a variety of reasons) and, for a one-income family, it couldn’t be a recurring cost.

Why not just stay home?

This was and still is my first option. Of course my own place is where I would prefer to sleep, nap or rest. But peace and quiet with a baby/ toddler and a preschooler is unrealistic. Enter the radical suggestion by my counsellor to have my husband take the kids out by 8am every Sunday. Sounds simple, right? It wasn’t. For the first six weeks of this new arrangement someone was sick or in isolation, whether it was one of them or one (or all) of the family members they were going to visit, or it was raining, etc., etc., etc.

So what is the idea?

An online booking platform for mothers of children aged 0-5 to get more sleep/ rest outside their hectic homes in local quiet rooms at affordable hourly rates.

The format is an app, called MyRnR, and a website, URL is myrnr.space (yes, space - get some!)

We all know it takes a village to raise a child and that we no longer live in villages.

I already have a prospective guest list of 20 mums who opted into Sleep Hotel’s updates after completing my target market survey (which now has 116 responses and is still open). These women are waiting to find out from me where they can go for some time out for themselves to sleep or rest. 

I also now have three potential hosts, two of which have completed my industry perspectives survey (also still open).

The Post App Launch Projection:

With the MyRnR app, caring hosts and carer guests can sign up so hosts can release their unbooked rooms on hourly rates, with self-set minimum spends, and guests can book microsleeps or reststops, with self-check-ins, within 12 hours.

Based on the share economy, think Airbnb & Uber, the point of MyRnR is to help make sharing spare capacity simple, rewarding and reliable. 

We would verify property listings and personal profiles, maintain a smart messaging system so hosts and guests can communicate easily and use a trusted platform to manage payments safely.

I am a ‘me’ but I need to be a ‘we’ so that this thing can be!

What I will use the funds for

I need:

- To protect my intellectual property by paying a Patent Attorney to provide legal advice and trademark my brand and products. (I have found out that I have a competitor with both financial investment and human resources launching in November.) Est. cost is $3,000.

- To create, support and sustain the product for 12 months; the online booking and payment platform to connect my Hosts to my Guests by purchasing website hosting, design and application development packages. Est. cost is $3,000 (for the first 12 months).

After receiving quotes from an Adelaide law firm and an Australian tech company, and communicating with both, it is estimated I need at least $6,000 to get this solution to market in the most responsible and professional way at this startup stage.

If I raised over and above that initial funding goal, the next share-rides I need out of the drive are:

- Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

- Display Ads

- Social Media Ads.

These marketing strategies are necessary to increase organic ranking on Google to both verify the legitimacy of my site, direct traffic to it and ensure I am seen in the deep, vast, sea, sea, sea. Est. cost is $3,000 (for three months).

I have discussed my business plan with an Adelaide digital marketing company and they provided overarching advice as well as a quote of approximately $1000/ month. Until I have investors on board, I think at least three months would be a dreamy birth for this business baby of mine.
