Who

Re-Shirt is the social enterprise brain child of permaculturalist Ellen Osahor of Ochre & Okra. Re-Shirt aims to divert clothing and textiles from landfill whilst providing families with an afforable and quality alternative to fast fashion.

Why

The Australian family of four spends an average of $2000 on clothing per year. Australia also sends approximate 500,000 tonnes of clothing and textiles to landfill each and every year.

How

Re-Shirt will divert textiles and clothing from landfill and provide quality, affordable clothes by:

1. Members swap their used items one for one for items in the Re-Shirt store with no money changing hands after membership fees (and postage if applicabe).
2. Swapped items are lovingly repaired, upcycled or turned into mending supplies like patches using visible mending as the political and fashion statement of the brand. 
3. Repaired and upcycled items are returned to the store to be swapped again - creating a loop where items are repaired, renewed and reused as many times as possible.
4. Eventually once an item can no longer be reused any longer, natural fibres will be composted and reincorporated into the landscape. Our future goal is to partner with other enterprises who can recycle any remaining synthetic waste.

This campaign aims to raise the capital required to jumpstart Re-Shirt initially as an online store.

Re-Shirt Jumpstart Capaign Budget

The Jumpstart campaign aims to raise the initial capital required for set up including:

• the purchase of tools and materials needed for visible mending
• the purchase of/sourcing of initial quality second hand items to be available in Re-Shirt store prior to first round of swaps
• the purchase of compostable postal bags sent to members to allow them to post in items prior to choosing items from the store.
• costs associated with website store design and management.
• contribute towards the living wage to employ one staff member part time.
