FILM CLIPS FOR MY NEW ALBUM!

Hi everyone, Peter Cupples here.

I have this very exciting new venture that I’m inviting you to be a part of. I’ve just completed my umpteenth album, called ‘Observations’, and I consider it to be my finest yet.

It’s also a very important album considering its content. Songs that speak of our time, right here right now; social issues, challenges, hopes, dreams, inspiration, and love – something of a time capsule, a snapshot if you will of who and what we are.

Because of this I’m planning to do a couple of film clips to help promote the album and its messages. And as I haven’t made a music video since 1983, sporting a full mullet no less, I’m going to require the services of a very good plastic surgeon – uh, I mean make-up artist and hair stylist!, for these two very important songs.

(Some people say John Farnham looks a bit like me?  Some say he even sounds a bit like me!)

The first music clip I want to do is for a song I wrote 20 years ago for someone I knew only briefly, but who left a lasting impression on me. Jason Winter, who was killed in the Port Arthur shootings saving his family. I was with Jason the day and night before at Moorilla Estate in Hobart, where he was a wine-maker, and it was only by chance I was not with him and his family on that fateful day.

I wrote ‘The Day the Devil Came’ six months after Port Arthur, mainly for my own healing, through the eyes of Jason’s baby boy who would grow up never knowing his Dad. It was a song I never thought I’d release. But in these troubled times of controversial gun control laws, it has found a home on this album, with the blessing of Jason’s wife, Jo, and their son, Mitchell. What followed from Port Arthur was swift and decisive action on gun control in this country, legislation that other countries envy today.

We have also been given permission to do some filming for this video at the Port Arthur Historical Site in Tasmania, a rare honour indeed, and one that I am very grateful for and take very seriously. It’s important to me therefore to get the right professionals on board to do this one just right.

The second song looks at bullying, that affects and happens to not only the young, but people of all ages, sex, colour, and creed. It’s called ‘Someone to Believe in Me’.  I'm going to be filming this song at a venue in Melbourne with the full band, and you could be in the video!

I’d love for these songs, and hopefully the music video clips that this Pozible campaign will allow us to create, to make a positive difference around the world, along with the 11 others on the album with their messages about being free, mental health, love, homelessness, gratitude, the refugee crisis, family, and more.

I’ve dedicated this album to two people who had a profound influence on my life and my career. Firstly to my brother, Terry, who gave me a start when I was just 12, and who remained a guiding force up until his passing late last year. And to my long-time friend and oft times mentor, Jon English, who was a frequent visitor to Port Arthur and who was also like a brother to me.

Thank you, and RIP lads.

The official album release date for 'Observations' is set for 25 October 2016. All going according to plan, we’ll be filming not long after!  Who knows, we might win an ARIA with our songs and/or film clips, or a Golden Guitar even. Woo hoo!!

Soooo… to my friends for being friendly, and for my fans for allowing me the opportunity to keep pursuing my creative dreams, and to my wonderful extended family - both personal and musical - I thank you all for your love and support and invite you to help make a difference by assisting with this Pozible campaign. There are some great rewards offered, big and small – you could even be in a music video! – and every single pledge will help us reach our goal. If you’re not in a position to pledge, that’s okay, just share. That in itself will help make a massive difference.

Thanks for ‘believing in me’ everyone. Let’s make it happen!

So as you can see, $17,400 will make us a couple of pretty awesome film clips.  But the more we raise over and above that target, the more albums we will be able to press, and the more we will be able to promote the album right around the country.  We might even raise enough to make some more film clips!  I so love all the songs on this album, it would be hard for me to decide which other ones to video.  Maybe I'll let you decide? :)

My special thanks at this time to CRAIG PEIHOPA for his incredible job on the photoshoot and artwork for the album.  And to GRANT BARTLETT, CORALEA CAMERON and AMANDA THOMAS for their belief in me and their endless help with this campaign and promotion.  Love ya work guys.  And of course to my beautiful wife and family, without whom this album would not be.  I am indeed blessed.

The Challenges

20 years on, and the Port Arthur massacre still remains a source of controversy and pain, understandably, to many of those involved.   I am very aware of this and will be working closely with the CEO and board of the Port Arthur Historial site to ensure that the video will honour and remember in the most respectful way those who lost their lives, the families and friends left behind, and the staff and emergency personnel involved.

I'm committed to using highly professional people in the industry to make both of these video clips worthy of their messages, and of the faith of the people who have invested in them and in me.

And of course there's the challenge of making me look good on camera at my young age!  That's where that good make up artist and hair stylist are going to be needed!!

Pledge

If you just want to help out and be a part of it all, but you're not sure quite how, even $5 will help.
