Right now, it all feels like we're going backwards on the sustainability and environmental front!  Bad leadership, regressive policies and all sorts of other madness.  It's easy to feel powerless.  So what can we do about it? By investing in and supporting good business, and disadvantaging bad, we can drive better business behaviour to safeguard our future.  

We want to launch the Goodments app, to give you the power to change the world and make money, one investment at a time.  Your generosity and support will help us finalise our design, get our app built and into your hands sooner!

Sustainable investing is better for the planet but it also works out better for your wallet, as investments in sustainable businesses often outperform their polluting counterparts.  Proving that in this day and age, making money and doing good don't have to be mutually exclusive.  The banks are already investing this way, but no one has made it easy for us everyday folk to do the same.  We're here to change that. 

How do we do it? Goodments overlays independant sustainability ratings on financial data so we can give you the complete picture of a business and where your hard earned money is going.  Importantly, our simple experience also takes the hassle out of investing, by matching you to shares that fit your environmental, social and ethical values (rather than you having to find them yourself).  We also give  you all the necessary information about the companies and their financial performance making it easy for you to invest, without compromising your values.  So you can put your money where your heart is!

Who is behind it? 

We are Tom and Emily, a husband and wife team.  In January this year, Tom quit his job at ANZ to go full time in making Goodments a reality.   Emily, works on the business on Fridays (and erm... saturdays and sundays).   Along with Babar, our brilliant technologist, we are bringing our finance and marketing experience together to launch Goodments. 

Why are they doing it? 

Because like so many others, we are frustrated with the pace of change when it comes to our planet and communities.   We believe impactful change will come at the hands of businesses, not governments (at least not ours!). Corporations are bordless, powerful entities that have the ability to make a positive impact on our future, but without an incentive (your money) they tend to adopt a wait and see attitude.  By choosing to invest in good business, and divest from bad, we can influence their behaviour. As the old adage goes; 'money talks'. 

Our mission is to create a more sustainable future by making it easy to invest in good business. 

Who is it for? 

Goodments is for anyone who wants to grow their hard earned money, but without sacrificing their personal values.  For those of us who want to feel good about the money we make, and where we put it.  For those who want to have their avocado toast and eat it too.   We know lots of us are looking for alternatives to property right now, Goodments is also an answer to that.

What do you get for your support? 

Working with some other great sustainable businesses, we've put together a range of awesome rewards.  

Firstly, working with SEEDTHECHANGE, we will plant a tree for every one of the rewards chosen.  With human activity costing us 46,923 square miles of forest each year, their projects help to plant trees in key regions around the globe - from Ethiopia to Haiti.

Two fantasic artist have supplied the Art for Good rewards.  

Sam Phelps has a background of fine arts study in Sydney. He works increasingly with UN agencies and NGOs including Médecins Sans Frontières on assignment throughout Africa. He also undertakes journalistic and portrait assignments for clients including Fader, Vice,  Der Spiegel, Newsweek, The FinancialTimes, The Guardian, Observer magazine and The Times.  

Elise Hassey has an Honours degree from COFA in Fine Arts (Photomedia). She developed an interest of customs, rites of passage, community and people co-existing within the natural environment. With authenticity and intuition she creates engaging and sincere portraiture of a diverse range of peoples throughout the world. She is also fascinated with surreal and majestic landscapes - traveling to some of the most remote and obscure corners of the globe to capture them.  Her photography has been published in National Geographic Traveler, Vogue, Harpers, The Australian, and International and Australian Traveller.

The $20,000 will be put to very good use.  It will help us build out the first version of the mobile app, available on iOS and Android, for early access to our community.   We have the app designed and our algorithm and data working, but need to finalise designs and bring in additional technical skills to build it and lauch it to our community.  It will also help us cover the licenses we need to operate as a trading platform going forward.

We're already spent over $40K on the tech, design, research and testing.  But we need this extra bit to get our app to market quickly.  The exact breakdown of the money is:

If we raise over the target, that money will go to designing and building additional functionality our community have told us they'd love - like the ability to import an existing share portfolio from another site and to build the community element of the app which will help people see popular trades. 

A special note to say that none of the money will be used for founder salaries - we're all doing this salary free.  The co-founders are 100% commited to Goodments and bringing about change.  This means that all the funds will be dedicated to getting the app launched.

$20K is an ambitious target, so our biggest challenge will be to reach that! We really hope everyone will see the opportunity in Goodments and get on board.

When it comes to other challenges, whether it be technical or navigating financial legislation, we've got a team with over 50 years of cumulative experience.  So we know what we're doing.
