In December 2016 we launched the Hopsters Co-operative Brewery project (www.hopsters.coop), an ambitious plan to establish the first member owned and run co-operative brewery in Australia, to be located in Sydney, NSW.  Thanks to the generous support of over 300 current members the co-op has been a great success to date.

With a focus on craft beer education, we have run several “learn to brew” classes, we have held home brew competitions for member's beer and, having judged and sampled the winning beers, we have been developing a very tasty range of recipes for our core range that are ready to brew.

We have set up our first brewing system and commenced contract brewing for kegs to sell to local venues. The co-op is also continuing to work toward establishing its own tap room and has signed a lease for a venue in Enmore, NSW.  There are plans to raise additional funds to fit out the microbrewery and taproom.

Firstly, before all that, we want to get Hopsters Beer into the hand of our members and customers. To do this, we need your support!!

Our first beer off the rack that will be available in cans is our beautiful Founders Pale Ale.

The funds from the campaign will be used to pre-sell Hopsters Beer in packaged form, and ensure that we can get the beer delivered to you, fresh from the brewery.  Costs associated with getting our beer into cans includes packaging materials, brewing ingredients and production costs.

Orders will be fulfilled on a first in, first serve basis.  If the campaign batch is over subscribed and we cannot fulfil your order no charge will be levied.

Hopsters Co-op needs to have a minimum pre-order quantity for the production run to be viable and to justify the decision to commit member’s funds towards the brewing, packaging and delivery costs.

As a co-operative with limited resources we don't have paid staff and rely heavily on the volunteer efforts of passionate members of the Board and a hand full of our members (so far!). Therefore, it is necessary to plan, run and manage the production, sales, distribution as efficiently as possible. The co-op cannot afford to invest in producing the beer and have this sitting around for any length of time. Pre-sales enables us to know the exact demand for the beer, brew it and get it to members and customers as quickly and fresh as possible.

Finally, timing of production, once the demand is finalised, will be subject to obtaining a 'window' within the busy brewery schedule and the timing to create the packaging materials.
