WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP!

For 40 years Dave Warby has had to listen to his Dad go on on about how he broke Donald Campbell’s Outright Unlimited World Speed Record in 1977… and set a new one in '78..no-one has beaten his Dad’s record (317MPH) for that matter either, and Dave reckons that 40 years is enough!

He’s got the boat and team to do it as well- SPIRIT2. She's a second generation hydroplane based on the original Spirit of Australia, and she's powered by a Bristol Sidley Orpheus Jet Engine…lighter, and more powerful than the original jet engine that powered Ken into the history books.

Kind of like designing 'a better wheel' (THOUGH THAT DID TAKE THE TEAM 5 YEARS AND A LOT OF MONEY) and it’s taken getting a lot of Ken’s old crew out of mothballs as well.

Racing boats has been in Dave's DNA since he was a kid, but he he's no big millionaire funding a bunch of scientists to design a boat for him (he works with disabled people and the NDIS) . Hell, Ken Warby is currently the only man in history to design, build and drive a boat to an Outright, Unlimited World Water Speed Record back in *78, he is also the only man alive to ever hold this record. Dave at least has a shed for his boat, Ken’s was in the backyard in Sydney. (check it out below) So they put their heads together and decided it was a challenge they could crack together....SPIRIT2 was born.

BIG BIG BALLS!!

This record is no small thing to go after, its damn dangerous and requires a big set of balls and a great team of people to make it happen (thats' why it's unbroken after 40 years). Thing is, its had to find big companies with the guts to back this sort of challenge (Thanks for having the faith RTM and John Haggin) So, we’re calling on all Aussies, global speed fiends and friends who want to see one of their own go one up on the ‘old man’  and allow some bragging rights for Dave over the dinner table!!

It costs a bit of money to run SPIRIT2, the team, transport, feeding this motley crew and running trials, slowly building up the speeds incrementally and testing the mods that the team make on the boat to keep Dave safe. Those tests and bringing the whole team with him to run them costs a little bit of cash, and thats where we need your help.

WHATS HAPPENING NOW!

We’ll be running tests all weekend on the 26th and 27th of May on Blowering Dam, so you can see what you’re signing up to help (STREAMING LIVE on Facebook, www.facebook.com/warbymotorsport). The tests are the only way to safely do this and the more tests we can run, the better the chance of ensuring we break the record safely.  We want you to jump on the Facebook page, like it and follow us while we test all weekend. We’ll put you in the cockpit with Dave as well so you can feel what this is all about, and what it will be like to support and come along on the ride.

The $50,000 we’re raising will allow us to fund 2 more tests ($25k per test) after this set of trials in May, and if we’re passing that $50,000 we’re looking to run at least two more later in the year with the record to be broken in November later this year. It’s an exciting time to get on board! If we can raise past the $100,000 mark, we'll be able to get the film crew working on a Feature Length Documentary Film..fingers crossed, it's an amazing story to tell..don't you think?

It costs money and time to get a whole team of volunteers together from all parts of the country, feed them and accomodate them at Blowering Dam. We only know what the boat is going to by testing the speeds, and what the modifications do. Things like being impatient, foolhardy and reckless can only end in tears, which is why safety first is the team's motto. They know what they're on about, they're all ex airforce or navy and those guys make sure they've got the right systems and procedures in place to keep everyone, especially Dave..in one piece.
