Hello and welcome!

You've made it all the way this little thread of the interweb so stick around for a bit, put the kettle on, pull up your favourite chair and I'll tell you a story... 

I've heard that the beginning is a very good place to start, so here's the brief synopsis! Gone Molly is the heartchild of songwriter Sally Harris, (that's me) and award winning folk musician Rebecca Wright. Our musical roots sit firmly in the Anglo-Celtic traditions, but also draw on contemporary sound and arrangement ideas. The debut album that we're crowdfunding for is a collection of original songs that tell the stories of miners and mysteries, love and larrikins, ghosts and grief, a happy wake and one very wayward woman.

Gone Molly was forged back in 2015 in a Brisbane lounge room. I had been wistfully watching Bec from a distance for a couple of years, (some may call this stalking, but I prefer the word observing ☺) and had finally found an opportunity to invite her around to my place for a musician's play date. I was ridiculously nervous. Being relatively new to both songwriting and performing, I couldn't believe my luck in having this very lovely and super-busy musician take an interest in playing with me! So I made her an AWESOME lunch. I plied her with copious amounts of tea and home baked goodies. I definitely talked waaaay too much. And when we finally got around to playing music we were in a shared food coma and there was only half an hour left in the play date, dammit!

So I picked up my guitar and with great trepidation played her a song, and then another. My voice trembled. My fingers hit the wrong strings. I forgot some words. Bec improvised on her cello but I couldn't tell you exactly what she did as I was way too busy trying not to run away and lock myself in the bathroom...  And yet somehow, at the end of this extremely short and, let's be honest, tortuous session she wanted to come back again for more!  Was it the lunch...?  Who cares, whatever it was, it worked! It wasn't long before we had a swag of songs to share and we soon found ourselves playing to fantastic audiences at festivals, folk clubs and house concerts, and making beautiful connections along the way.

Bec and I first began to conceptualise the album in the middle of last year.  We had the songs, the vision and the energy - but what we really needed was a kickstart. With the help of some very excellent friends we organised a fundraising concert which was an incredible success and an unforgettable afternoon, (nobody mention the underpants, ok?) and raised enough funds to make a solid start on recording. 

And now here we are! We're well on our way to having the bones of the album in place and now it's time to lay down the rest with some help from some very talented guest musicians. Then it's straight into production and the launch, which is anticipated to be in September - eek! That's not very far away!

So this is where you come in! Bec and I would love you to be part of this journey, and if you can help in any way it would be deeply appreciated. There are some great rewards on offer and every single dollar will help!  And if you don't have a dollar, then you can always help out by sharing the Gone Molly story with as many of your friends as possible - even a single share makes a huge difference.

It is genuinely the realisation of a lifelong dream, and Bec and I are soooo excited about embarking on this adventure with you all, and sharing more of our stories, songs and sillies along the way!

Your help will allow us to record our album and funds recieved will be used for the following:

• Producer & Studio fees
• Musician fees (for additional guest artist awesomeness)
• Mixing fees
• Mastering fees
• Pressing the album (ie making it into an actual CD)
• Pozible fees

If we go over the target (eek!), we will put funds towards one or more of these wonderful things:

• Photographer for promotion
• A publicist to help us promote the album in Australia and overseas
• Marketing
• A video clip (imagine how much fun we could have with that!)

We're independent artists - sounds pretty smashing huh?  And it is!  However, it also means that we have to do everything ourselves, without the assistance and resources of a record label.  And finding the funds to record, mix and master an album up front is pretty damned tricky!  

And then there are the other realities... Gone Molly is made up of a single mum and a (mostly) full time musician... We, like most other independent artists, are usually in the position of paying for the pleasure of playing at festivals once all our expenses are taken into account, so the capacity for building a healthy band bank account is, well.... zip! 

So it comes down to this:  We love what we do, we really, really LOVE it!  And we want to keep creating, performing and sharing our music however we can.  Crowdfunding with Pozible is an amazing opportunity for us not only to realise our dream of recording these songs that we've worked so hard on, but to connect with our audience (that's you!) and genuinely walk this road together!
