Glitterfist Productions & The 86 presents the origin story of Glitterfist: drag deity and pleasure prophet. 

Glamdrogyny. Desire. Resistance.

Summoned into this world by the power of fierce femmes, gender rebels, trans-formers and beautiful queerdos, drag deity Glitterfist is on a mission to absolve shame, inspire worship and spread the gospel of pleasure, freedom and filth. Glitterfist and fellow divine non-binary babes Jessica McKerlie (Gender Spanner) and Six Inches Uncut (TAINT Cabaret) will seduce you with a surreal drag-burlesque tale of exploration and fantasy. Dive into the origins of an irreverent being whose hedonism knows no bounds as they search for connection, get lost in desire, smacked hard with reality and discover a thirst for resistance. Glitterfist’s imaginative theatrics and commanding yet vulnerable storytelling create a vibrant, sacred world that celebrates diverse genders and sexualities and encourages audiences to join Glitterfist and worship themselves. OUR MISSION

Our mission is to create a surreal and sacred fantasy world within the walls of The 86 cabaret bar. Glitterfist: Libertine is a 50 minute cabaret show that celebrates breaking the mold, gender-diversity and the power of pleasure. The show will be a part of Midsumma Festival 2018, the season running from January 30th until February 3rd.

MEET THE CREATIVES

Glitterfist: Libertine is being produced by a small queer A-Team dedicated to highlighting and celebrating the talents and gender expression of the trans, non-binary and genderqueer artists involved in the project.

Bree Zilla

Glitterfist: Libertine is written and directed by Bree Zilla, the genderqueer performance art shapeshifter behind Glitterfist, Ziggy Discoballs and Little Skink. They have spread gender-bending smut and glitter across numerous shows, including Taylor Mac’s 24-Decade History of Popular Music, Gaytimes Festival, the Australian Burlesque Festival, Oz Kink Fest, MAX FREAK, Rainbow Serpent Festival and Honcho Disko. Sarah X Spandex

Co-producing this show is powerhouse Sarah X Spandex, writer and star of the successful Melbourne Fringe show Planet of the Kings, co-founder of King Moustache Productions, part of the organisational team behind Kong’s Kings, and artist behind drag king Rex Spandex, winner of Chillout Festival’s Jewel in the Crown 2016.

Six Inches Uncut

A hyper-queer eruption of grease paint and gaffer tape, Six Inches Uncut staggers around somewhere between gorgeous and grotesque, harnessing a terrifying mixture of trash and treasure to create intimate moments of passionate exchange between performer and audience. They have flung their work in front of audiences around Australia and currently produce and host TAINT, a raw, intimate and surprisingly ticklish cabaret lab at Melbourne’s iconic Hare Hole.

Jessica McKerlie

Jessica is a genderfluid performance and visual artist based in Melbourne, part of the 2015 PACT Collective, and has travelled the world armed with a ukulele, spinning plates and more clothes than you can fit in your wardrobe, presenting a smorgasbord of original music, burlesque and poetry. Jessica's first solo show, GENDER SPANNER has been touring Fringe Festivals across the world for the past two years, including Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Brighton Fringe Festival in 2017.

Toyah Hoetzel

Melbourne music producer, composer, live performer and musician Toyah Hoetzel is a pop, house and electro enthusiast and has jumped on board with Glitterfist: Libertine as music curator, composer and producer. Toyah is likely no stranger to you and with a steady but strong backlog of releases Toyah's years of cultivation will help create the whole aural experience live and in stereo. What if we don't hit our target?

Hands down, this is the biggest challenge we face. We are a small team of independent artists so naturally we don't have a great deal of access to funds. Your help to get our campaign over the line is our best chance of making this show a success. 

Co-producers Bree and Sarah are doing a profit-share for this show which means they don't get paid unless the show is a success. However, it is really important to us that we are able to pay all the other performers, composers and technicians that are contributing the show.  

If we don't hit our target we will still soldier on to make this show a reality for Midsumma 2018, but we will scale it down to accommodate budget limitations. We have sponsorship packages available to offer any potential financial or in-kind sponsors, and if worst comes to worst Sarah and Bree will drain their bank accounts and life blood to put on the show.

Space Transformation vs Time Restraints

Given part of our mission is to transform the venue into a surreal world fit for a pleasure prophet, one of our great challenges will be creating set, props and decorations that can be put up and packed down quickly. During festival times venues often have strict bump-in and bump-out times, sometimes as little as 10 minutes. Fortunately we are a creative team surrounded by a community of creative thinkers, so we are confident we will be able to come up with a creative solution to this problem! One of our key set pieces (which is quite elaborate and large) has already been constructed and packs down within a minute. This shows that our mission is realistic and achievable.
