Hello!

I'm Charlotte Roberts and I'm making two albums. I love playing with my voice and I love to create and I love to compose through my body and through my voice and through lived experience. I have so many songs and such a broad spectrum of types of songs, so it really feels like two distinct albums. It's sort of like I'm having twins, I have to birth both these babies. 

The first album is a loopy based album, these loopy songs are really vocally based, so it's really drawing on the breadth of the voice as an instrument. Stacked harmony, nature sounds, textural sounds, rhythmic play, beat box, soloing, interweaving of all these elements. I'll meet with the loop pedal kind of like a dance partner, we kind of have a conversation, then I'll sing or solo, add something to the loop, then feel into my body again, and something comes. It's as much about the silences as the sound. And being sung as singing. I compose whole songs in the moment. 

The second album is called Vocal Digs and it's all tracks from a live improvised performance at La Mama Theatre. They'll be quite stripped back and narrative based. And they're all a lot to do with how important it is to show up and do the work as a musician and also let go and surrender.

So, a combination of being passive and active within the process

of music making. Some of these songs include narrative around my journey being a woman musician and how i've moved through some of the challenges of certain biases in our society as what is seen as music or what is seen appropriate or ok to express, and who are the kind of voices that we want to hear? It is kind of like; a 'Fuck you to anyone who says you can't play music'. 

Theres not many things that i feel i just have to do, and making these albums feels like something i don't have a choice in.

I'm recording both these albums with Joe Hammond, of Pots and Pans Recording studio, and he has a really superb and exquisite attention to detail and we made a really fucking awesome album STAY IN YOUR POWER. I'm really proud of that.

For me, the idea of success is creating something we're really proud of. So, to enjoy the process, and make something close to my heart is more important than making it in the music industry. 

It's going to be so beautiful.

THE GOAL = $4, 500

WHERE IS THE $4, 500 GOING?

$3600 goes to the skilled Audio Engineer Joe Hammond who I'll spend 8 days with at Pots and Pans Recording studio thanks to you! 

$900 will go to reputable Mastering-person!

$0 will go to me for my time working in the studio on this album

THEN, 

$2, 500 of my own funds will go to cover any extra days in the studio needed, digital and hardcopy distribution for our December 2021 deadline.

WHAT IF WE GO OVER THE $4, 500 TARGET?

-If we reach $6, 500 we will have funds to cover the cost of any extra recording days, mixing, mastering, digital distribution and printing (and this will also allow me to focus more energy on the album work than farm-work and other day jobs!)

-If we make $7, 500 we will be able to have professional photos and cover art made

-If we make $10, 000 we can hire a professional publicist and have a music video made to help launch the albums into the world

-If we make $12, 500 we can hire an awesome Album launch venue and pay sound and lighting people to put on a beautiful theatre-style show for you

WHAT IF WE DON'T REACH THE TARGET FOR THIS CAMPAIGN?

No money will be received by me, Pozible or the other artists. 

1. We will try another campaign at a lower figure!

2. We will apply for an Arts grant, do some fundraising in other ways, have a garage sale etc. etc. and Charlotte will keep working hard, and will aim to save the $12, 000 over a few years and complete the album by the end of 2023
