ETHER- new physical theatre
Ether
Before words there is instinct.
In the grey ether between lightness and darkness, twins meet to traverse their irrevocable connection. Ether, a new physical theatre work produced by Murmur Collective and premiering at Melbourne Fringe Festival 2012 portrays the twin bond and their search for identity. Ether is set in a conceptual playground, where the audience join the performers in a sandpit, and supported by a live score from Melbourne eclectic-folk duo Winternationale and innovative lighting from recent VCA graduate, Julia Knibbs. (www.juliaknibbs.com). Winternationale will also be playing a half hour set after the Friday and Saturday shows!!

Ether is inspired from a deeply personal experience for Devon Taylor (Murmur Collective/Chiaroscuro Theatre) one half of the creative team. After losing a child born of twins four years ago, she was drawn to examine the connection, the bond and sense of self within the blood-tie of twins.
She and Naomi Francis (Mothlight) have been exploring these themes in a creative development period spanning the last six months. It was through their extensive interviews with twins and parents of twins that they discovered the direction of Ether. Each twin interviewed spoke candidly of their struggle with identity.
What they have produced is a simple and careful theatre offering, where the physical and emotional thread that binds twins is unravelled
Why we need some money!
We are seeking to raise funds for the hire of a geodesic dome to include in our set design.
We have sourced a dome that can be easily constructed and hired for the duration of the production. It is the correct size and has enough structural strength for our creative vision. The dome we wish to hire is pictured below.
Costs
We have been quoted;
$100/day X 7 days= $700
Total needed to hire=$700
The action and the audience will be within the confines of this majestic structure. We, audience and actors, will literally be inside the dome for the duration of the performance.
Any contribution will help enormously. Thank you in advance.
