Project Details

To get the Galactic Rainbow Hoop off the ground, Hoop Empire is teaming up with Aqualux Lighting, a company also based in Sydney that has been building LED light fittings for close to 10 years. Aqualux has the experience and contacts to make a project like this happen, plus they also have a factory here in Sydney which is where the manufacturing will take place. Hoop Empire has been trying and testing light hoops from all over the world for long enough to know what works best and the ideal cost to keep hoopstars in the spin without busting the bank balance.

What We’ve Done so Far

- Tested existing LED hoops for the last 7 years!
- Established relationships with suppliers and ordered component samples
- Selected an electronic engineer for the design of the circuit and discussed the project in extensive detail - we're ready to go here
- Carried out testing of the basic circuit and determined what patterns we need
- Selected an Australian manufacturer of hoop pipe
- Secured an Australian (Sydney) based factory for hoop assembly

Why we need to crowd-source funding?

To put this hoop onto the market we need to raise funds in order to develop the custom electronics that will go inside the hoop - that means shrinking a big controller box the size of a TV remote control into a tiny circuit board that will slide easily into the hoop. Who would have thought how much cash that costs?! Around 20K is the answer to that one. The money we raise through this campaign will allow us to make the circuit board to reproduce and sell at a super affordable price. This is additional to other development costs (assembly, tubing etc) that we are funding ourselves. But it is this initial circuit engineering cost that has raised the price of so many of the amazing LED hoops that are on the market now. The idea is if our community participates by purchasing their Galactic Rainbow Hoops at a special presale price then we can A/ raise the money to make it and B/ avoid having to put an outrageous price tag on it for all to enjoy. By purchasing your very own Galactic Rainbow via Pozible you are taking part in making the first of it's kind - an Australian made LED light hoop - available on the Australian market. The Galactic Rainbow Hoop

The basic physical specs for the Galactic Rainbow Hoop are:

• - Approx 60 RGB LEDs (depends on size of hoop)
• - 12 Modes (see below for details)
• - Available in a two sizes: 85cm (33") + 100cm (39")
• - 20mm HDPE Tube Thickness
• - Lightweight and durable
• - Li-Ion Battery Technology (run-time TBD, but at least 3-4 hours)
• - Micro-USB Charging (use your compatible phone charger or computer USB port to charge!)
• - Custom CNC machined Aluminium joiner (houses electronics, USB charging port and micro-switch)
• - Shipped without tape decoration, letting you create your own unique style
• - Smooth spinning no rattle!

The LED patterns are currently:

1. - Rainbow Chase (A chase effect)
2. - Rainbow Pulse (A slow fade-in / fade-out)
3. - Rainbow Disco (A fast rainbow flash/strobe)
4. - Rainbow Ambience (Static rainbow)
5. - Rainbow Allsorts (All of the above one after the other)
6. - Rainbow Selection (6 individual colours - Solid Red / Orange / Pink / Purple / Green / Blue)

Time Line

Once the electronic development is funded we estimate it will take 4 months to produce the final prototype. Then production of the Galactic Rainbow begins. The first 200 limited edition hoops will be ready to spin by February 2013 - hopefully sooner! We will keep everyone updated via the Pozible project and on Facebook, letting you know how the project proceeds and that we're on track.
