About the Film:
Riptide is a short film about the love and passion for surfing, set along the beautiful Western Australian coastline. The film tells the story of a promising young surfer who is confronted with a personal tragedy that challenges her deep connection with the ocean.

Our Story:
Riptide will be produced by a group of students from the WA Screen Academy. We have had the opportunity to work with leading industry mentors - most notably, award winning Australian cinematographer, Don McAlpine ACS. ASC who is famous for his work on films such as Moulin Rouge! (2001) Romeo + Juliet (1996), and most recently, The Dressmaker (2015).

Riptide, along with the other Screen Academy films will be broadcasted on Channel 9, and will feature some of Australia’s most talented young actors from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).

We are all passionate and excited about our film, and are dedicated to the vision and theme of this story. We are striving to make a high quality film that audiences of all ages with enjoy and engage with.

By reaching our ideal target, we’d be able to achieve our desired end result.

To do justice to this story about the deep connection between surfer and sea, we need to be able to get in the water, and make the audience feel that they are actually there, surfing with our characters.

We have sourced the needed underwater equipment, but rely on raising extra funds to cover the cost of specialist equipment.

If we exceed our target, we will use the additional funds for entry fees into some of the top international festivals.
