In April 2016, under the title of Vicarious Press, 8 Australian visual artists will travel to Fabriano, Italy to undertake a printmaking  residency within the walls of the historical town know for its rich history of traditional papermaking and arts. They will be led by seasoned printmaker Vicki Reynolds, the head of printmaking at Adelaide College of the Arts and a third time visitor to the town of Fabriano.

During their time in Fabriano, these printmakers will learn and refine their skills, drawing on the knowledge of masters in traditional printmaking, papermaking and bookbinding. This time away from their busy lifestyles will also see them begin to create new artworks for an exhibition in Adelaide upon their return.

The 8 Australian artists will also be holding a group exhibition in the town, giving Italy a taste of Australian printmaking. Working in Fabriano to create artworks will also involve the use of historical printing presses and equipment exhibited at the main museum (which means members of the public will be able to watch the artists at work!)

Other opportunities for Vicarious Press in Fabriano will include:

- 2 day workshop of traditional watermark and paper making, using traditional equipment and techniques hundreds of years old
- Etching workshop at the studio of master etcher Roberto Stelluti
- Bookbinding and Letterpress workshop with Peppe Baldinelli
- Visits to nearby towns of Urbino, Assisi and Gubbio to view historical artworks and sites of significance

How The Funds Will Be Used

Whilst the majority of the funds needed for this residency will be raised by the participating artists, this campaign will raise some much-needed financial assistance in paying for the following:

- 12 nights accommodation within walls of historical Fabriano, walking distance from museo where majority of residency will take place
- tuition and masterclasses in traditional etching, paper and watermark making, bookbinding and letterpress
- Mini bus hire for day trips to surrounding areas to view historical artworks and sites of significance

All artists participating in the residency will pay for their own transport and food.
The majority of tools, equipment and materials needed for the creation of the artwork will be taken with them from Australia, however some materials and sundries will be needed to be purchased whilst on the residency.

The Challenges

- Preparation will be the key for a successful residency. This is mainly in regards to ensuring that the artists take most of required art tools and materials over with them, rather than relying on the small, local art supplies stores.

- At the same time, allowing for some flexibility in itinerary is needed. The artists' guides and instructors during the residency may need to change times or days around at the last moment. When this happens, the artists can use free days to work within the museo creating artworks

- Shared accommodation in a single apartment, as well as spending consecutive days working and traveling in a group can lead to some much-needed alone time. The artists will be able to wander the historical town of Fabriano during these times.

Small donation

Donations under $20 will receive the group's eternal gratitude. Molte grazie!
