10x10 BNE Event: 19 November 2015

AU$13,200
of $1,000 targetyrs ago
Successful on 20th Nov 2015 at 10:59AM.
THE PROBLEM
There are thousands of charities and social enterprises, so how do you know which one to support?
How do you know where your money's going?
How do you find the time to research what's out there, let alone whether they're worthy?
How can you make a difference if you are not a millionaire?

THE 10X10 SOLUTION
10x10 is a scalable platform that provides a unique and social forum for young professionals and creatives to give to emerging charities or social enterprises whose causes resonate with them. It also engenders a culture of giving and philanthropy within our communities.

THIS EVENT
Join us on Thursday 19 November 2015 at Blue Sky Investments
Level 46, 111 Eagle St, Brisbane
5.30pm-7.30pm
Drinks & canapés from 5:30pm. Speakers begin promptly at 6:00pm.

HOW IT WORKS
1) Each event showcases three emerging charities or social enterprises, carefully chosen as organisations creating solutions to complex social issues in our communities or abroad.
2) Supported by the 10x10 founders, each event is planned and hosted by a fresh committee of 10. Each committee member hosts 10 guests at the event, bringing together over 100 people who each contribute $100 or more, raising $10,000 at least!
3) Each charity or social enterprise has five minutes to pitch in the style of the popular UK television show "The Dragon's Den" and are then questioned by a special guest Dragon about their cause and business model.
4) The amount you donate through Pozible in advance is turned into vouchers for 'Charity Dollars' in increments of $50. After hearing the pitches, you choose the organisations you most want to support. Many people want to support all three charities or social enterprises so they contribute $150 or more. Additional donations to the enterprises are contributed by our event sponsors.
5) All costs of each event are covered by event sponsors, to ensure that ALL funds raised on the night go directly to the three charities or social enterprises.

OUR GUEST DRAGON - ALLAN ENGLISH
Allan is the Founder and Executive Chairman of ASX-listed, and B-Corp accredited, Silver Chef Limited which was founded in 1986. In 2000, as a volunteer, he established the Queensland office for Opportunity International. In 2010, he created the English Family Foundation to support local and overseas social entrepreneurs tackling some of the more challenging issues facing our society. Allan serves on the Advisory Board for QUT's The Australian Centre for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies. He is a former recipient of the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award and was recognised in 2012 by Queensland’s Community Foundation as Philanthropist of the Year. In 2014, he won the inaugural Philanthropy Australia’s Philanthropy Leader award.

How The Funds Will Be Used

After considerable debate, we have handpicked three fantastic charities who will pitch for your donations on the night. Read about each of them below:

HELP ME WITH IT

Help Me With It is a digital disrupter in the social service and volunteering sectors. Help Me With It is building a peer-to-peer platform to make it easy for people to get help and help out. Our mission is to connect individuals who need help to do one-off tasks with individuals who want to volunteer their time to fix, clean, care, shop, transport, garden, sort, teach and more.

There is no service like this in Australia and we are piloting first in Brisbane in November. As well as a new way to provide help for people who are disadvantaged and vulnerable, the service will increase volunteering which is currently declining because people can’t volunteer regularly and they want to do what they are good at, when it suits them.

People who will benefit from the service include elderly people, pensioners, migrants, people from a refugee background, people with disabilities and people impacted by a natural disaster. These people seeking help will also include people who don’t have friends or family or a network to support them. Volunteers will also benefit because they will have a new way to help out locally and when it suits them. Community services will benefit because they will have another service to refer their clients to.

SPUR PROJECTS

Spur Projects exists to make it an easier option for men to take positive action than to suicide.

Suicide remains the leading cause of death for men aged 14 to 44, and 80% of all suicides are men. We believe bold, new solutions are required.

Spur Projects works on a range of initiatives in the preventative space - each focusing on a specific area of mental health or specific demographic. We’re not a counselling or front-line service. Rather, we’re interested in changing the way men understand and talk about their feelings during the "good times" in life. That way, when tough times come (and they will), guys have the language and tools to navigate back out again.

In 2016, Spur Projects is launching “How is the World Feeling?” - the world’s largest, real-time, mental health survey: 7 days, 7 continents, 7 million users and 70 million emotions logged. It will create the largest open-source, data-bank of emotions, providing actionable data for mental health organisations and governments.

MELANOMA PATIENTS AUSTRALIA

Melanoma Patients Australia is Australia's only patient driven independent non profit organisation that offers a national network of support and information to patients, their families, carers, and friends, about melanoma prevention, diagnosis, management and treatment.

MPA proudly hosts free regional public melanoma forums; offers a community of friendship and support to melanoma patients and friends through face to face support groups and online resources. It also advocates on behalf of patients to all levels of government, as well as relevant service organisations, researchers and corporations. Finally MPA supports research and clinical trials seeking to offer the best options for melanoma patients.
