TAY MAN - Short Film
As Dave bites the bullet, fronts the haters and prepares to shake it off - by "coming out" as a Tay Man to his wife Leanne - our film comments on Australian masculinity, music snobbery, and pleasures that shouldn't have to be guilty.
TAY MAN ultimately makes for a short, funny and punchy mockumentary bound for the festival circuit.
Led by writer/director Angela McCormack, brought to life by cinematographer Alex Ditsas, and produced by Jessica Campbell and Joel Perlgut, TAY MAN is proudly created by current and former students of Media Arts & Production at The University of Technology, Sydney.
TAY MAN will be shot in mid-September and entered into Tropfest 2015.
Inspiration
That's how you might get TAY MAN.
TAY MAN also takes cues from the legendary work of Christopher Guest (Best in Show, Waiting For Guffman), as well as iconic shows like Parks & Recreation and The Office.

We're determined to make TAY MAN as beautiful as possible. While we might mimic the fundamentals of documentary filmmaking to fit the mockumentary genre, our mise-en-scène and schmick production design will make our visuals sing just as loudly as our script.

Cast
However, we're excited to announce two of our Tay Men, with more exciting cast announcements to come.

DAVID COLLINS
Although David is better known to audiences as one half of the Umbilical Brothers, he is also an award wining actor, playwright and director who enjoys both dramatic and comedic roles.
He won Best Actor at Tropfest for his film Silencer, which he also co-wrote and directed. More recently David played Arnie in Maya the Bee, has worked for Kennedy Miller on Happy Feet 2, and appeared in the Australian films Thunderstruck (dir: Darren Ashton) and You Can’t Stop the Murders (dir: Anthony Mir).
On television David co-created and performed in the Emmy and Logie winning Upside Down Show. He has had roles in In Your Dreams for Southern Star, Me and My Monsters, All Saints and more recently a regular role in Micro Nation. He also sang the theme song for Penelope K By The Way.
CRAIG ANDERSON
Craig Anderson is a multi-AACTA award winning actor/director who has worked on such groundbreaking comedies as 'Black Comedy', 'Double The Fist', 'Review with Myles Barlow' and 'Your Momma When You Weren't Looking'. He was also in 'Next Stop Hollywood' where he failed at becoming the next Jonah Hill and then cried on camera.

The Challenges
The most unique challenge, however, lies in obtaining the rights to use one of Taylor Swift's songs in our film.
At the moment, our budget can't take on the cost of licensing, publishing and distribution rights for a Taylor swift song. We're currently developing scripting strategies to avoid using a song; we're also taking a shot and personally reaching out to Swifty for the rights.
In the (great) likelihood that Taylor Swift does not grant our wish like she did Belvoir Street's, TAY MAN will still strictly adhere to legal guidelines in terms of music copyright.
BUT securing the publishing rights for our cast to perform "DAD BLOOD" and/or "42"—Dave, Paul and Hamish's takes on Taylor Swift classics—would make TAY MAN a truly special film.
