Greylith represents a group of final year engineering students with a passion for design and innovation. What started out as a search for a new compact mini-ITX computer case began a yearlong endeavour to build and manufacture our very own computer cases. What are we doing?
Dissatisfied at the options available online and the team set about designing minimalistic and utilitarian designs to be made out of premium materials like aluminium instead plastic. One of the main goals at Greylith cases is space efficiency, to try and make the cases as compact as possible by minimising wasted space. With the help and feedback from the online community at “[H]ardforum” we will able to try and perfect our designs and get them ready for production.
With a growing interest from the general public, what started off as a personal pet project is showing real potential as a possible business venture. It is for that reason the aim of this crowd funding campaign is to obtain the necessary funds required to provide the team with the equipment, tools and materials to build a working prototype for the first stage of production. The team has hit a major roadblock in the building of the prototype where the bending of the aluminium has resulted in dimensional inaccuracies. Therefore to produce the finished article, better equipment and tools are needed to deliver the level of quality envisioned.

Why Greylith?
By backing this project you will be kick starting not just the production of a few PC cases but also a dream. It is the hopes of the team that this prototype will the pave the way for a limited run production through a second crowd funding campaign with an OEM (original equipment manufacturer).

How The Funds Will Be Used
Most of the funds will go into the equipment needed to help us build our very own prototype. As of now we are still working out of our university workshop however the workshop is not equipped with a bending brake.

The Challenges
The biggest challenge we are facing at the moment is definitely the difficulty of bending the aluminium accurately. It is for that reason we need an accurate method of bending the sheets. One of the best options is the bending brake, even though it is manually done the angle and bend radius can be set prior to bend. Another challenge we face is the anodising process which still hasn't been perfected. We are currently working alongside the professors at our university to produce a stable and more consistent method of anodising.
