Thomas Banks' Quest for Love
Thomas Banks searches on internet dating sites, inside sleazy nightclubs and seedy gay saunas. He struggles to disclose his disability to potential lovers and experiences many dates that go wrong.
As his own personal story unfolds, so does his autobiographical play, “The Power of Love” in a life meets art story.

This project has been in the making for over 4 years. We've done a lot of the filming so far as a labour of love and now we need your help to edit the film and cover some of the post-production costs. Your support for this project will take the film from rough cut stage to fine cut stage plus it will pay for key elements of post-production including music, subtitles, voice over and title credits.
Thomas' story is important because he is determined to have a voice and be heard, determined to change stereotypes about disability and sexuality and determined to find Mr. Right!
Thomas Banks is a strong advocate for people with disabilities who are discovering their sexuality and he is also a spokesman for young people developing their careers in the arts.
We are eager to get this film out to the public as soon as possible. Your contributions will take this film to a point where we can market it to potential broadcasters and festivals. We really need you now!

Thomas' story is one shared by many people living with a disability and these topics are surprisingly still taboo! With your help, we want to show the world there is a strong demand to smash old stereotypes and we also want to show that many people (like you!) want to see a film about disability, sexuality and love. You can do this by contributing to the campaign and sharing it with your friends. Thomas' determination and bravery to reveal his personal life has shown us that if you put your mind to something - you can do it! He's a strong role model for any young person.
We have fallen in love with Thomas Banks and we know you will too. We invite you to join this journey with us to help tell Thomas' story and get it out to the public as soon as possible.

How The Funds Will Be Used
So your impact is effectively DOUBLED, dollar for dollar. If you donate $500, with our MATCH in-principle funding it will equal $1000 which is 2 and a half days of editing. A lot can be done in 2 and a half days!
The donations will go towards editing and post-production costs for the film. We have brought the project to rough cut stage. Now we need to hand it over to a professional editor to trim the film down into a slick story for the screen. Your support will also help to cover costs for voice over, subtitles, music and title credits.
Cost breakdown:
- Editing fee (8-10 weeks)
- Professional music composition and recording
- Post-production coordination
- Narration recording
- Titles and motion graphics
- Hard drives
- Archive research
- Design work
We are working with a team who are passionate about this project too and are offering extremely competitive rates for their expert services. So not a dollar will be wasted.
Many experienced creatives have already given up their time to work on this project for super competitive rates, sometimes in a volunteer capacity. These people are Amie Batalibasi (camera/sound), Carina Mergens (camera/sound), Kelly Hucker (camera), Shannon Owen (sound and script/story consultancy), Alexandra McCallum (story consultancy), Veronica Fury (Producer consultancy), Poppy Walker (story and rough cut consultancy), Kate Walton (story and ethics consultant), and the core team - Phoebe Hart (Co-Prod.), Pip Kelly (Dir/Prod.), Amelia Paxman (Post-Prod.), Dan Schist (cinematography) and Michael John Patrick (music composition so far). Thank you so much!

Thanks to Creative Partnerships Australia’s MATCH program, every dollar you give to this campaign will be matched dollar for dollar provided we reach our campaign target of $10,000.
The Challenges
Reaching our target is of course a major challenge. While we believe $10,000 is a modest amount for what we are aiming to achieve, with the extra $10,000 of in-principal funds from MATCH, it makes the deal a lot sweeter (and the stakes a lot higher). But we have a good network of partners and organisations and a strong media plan which will help us get the message out.
