Cirque Du Science Presents: TRAPEZE GET DEGREES

Presented by the University of Sydney Union

In 2005, a group of students studying in the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney created The Sydney University Science Revue Society - a place where students could enrich their university life by organising and producing a variety show to showcase their talents in writing and performing sketch comedy, singing and dancing . Every year, Science Revue gives students opportunities to develop their creative and performance skills and create lasting friendships, whilst supporting an important cause - most of our revenue is donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, which provides support and services to Australians living with cystic fibrosis, as well as their carers and families. Last year, our completely student-run production raised over $7000.

The annual Sydney University Science Revue has steadily grown year after year, from a relatively small show to an elaborate production that now fills a 788 seat theatre. Whilst this means we're able to raise even more revenue from ticket sales that we can donate to the Foundation, it also means we have to pay for increased costs of costuming, props, venue hire and other aspects of the show.

Only a small amount of our revenue is set aside to keep the society running, and no individual makes any personal profit. Ticket sales make up almost all of our revenue, but we’re not able to use this until after the show has ended. We rely on individual donations and fundraising events ahead of the show. This is why we need your help. Making a pledge towards our Pozible campaign will help us put on a fantastic show and allow us to continue doing what we do best. Your support will also benefit Australians suffering from Cystic Fibrosis.

'Trapeze Get Degrees' will be performed in the York Theatre at the Seymour Centre on September 4th-6th. More information about the show can be found out our Facebook event. https://www.facebook.com/events/1453630358232911/?...

We've organised some wonderful rewards for our contributors, and any donation to our Pozible campaign would be immensely appreciated. Thank you for your support!

The Sydney University Science Revue is presented as part of the University of Sydney Union’s Revue Season and is made possible due to the support of the Union. We are also supported by the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney and New Scientist.

How The Funds Will Be Used

The funds that we raise will from this project will be spent in several important areas:

1. Covering the costs of costumes and props.

2. Providing meals for our cast members during our all-day weekend rehearsals and show week.

3. Promoting the heck out of our show, and potentially increasing our budget for posters and advertising to boost ticket sales and increase the amount of revenue that we can donate to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

4. Any extra money that we receive that isn't needed for the show will be donated directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The Challenges

We’re completely student-run, so unfortunately we’re not fabulously rich and we don’t have major financial backing. Thanks to the generosity of the University of Sydney Union, and the University of Sydney Faculty of Science, we're able to cover the basic costs of keeping the society running, but for the most part we rely on fundraising drives and donations to bring our show to life.

As we donate most of our proceeds  (and any extra money we have lying around) to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, we have to start from scratch every year to raise money for our show. We have democratically elected treasurers who ensure that we remain within budget in the event of any unexpected shortfalls, but our success (and the amount we're able to donate to Cystic Fibrosis) is largely dependent on how much money we're able to raise towards our production.
