ABOUT THE PROJECT

SLASHER SQUAD is an 8 minute, action-horror short film about a team of sexy and deadly women who hunt slasher villains by using themselves as bait. Think of a darker CHARLIE'S ANGELS meets FRIDAY THE 13TH, inspired by the likes of BUFFY, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE and even SCOOBY DOO. It’s not a comedy but has a wicked sense of humour, playing with the conventions of the genre alongside films like Wes Craven’s SCREAM and Joss Whedon’s recent CABIN IN THE WOODS.

It’s a genre mashup of horror and action, taking place in a larger-than-life world. A place where sexy, kick-ass heroines battle terrifying villains. Where classic movie killers like Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers lurk in the shadows of every town. Someone needs to protect the innocent from these monsters, and that someone is a team of gorgeous, dangerous and slightly twisted women known as the SLASHER SQUAD.

We’ve actually written SLASHER SQUAD as a full-length feature script, but to start with we’re making a short film based on the script’s opening scene. It focuses on Amber, who must face off against an unstoppable psychotic killer as part of her initiation into the squad. Will she survive the night?

WHY ARE WE MAKING THIS SHORT FILM?

Like many of you out there, we grew up devouring films. It’s our passion, especially genres like horror, action, thriller and sci-fi.

In a way, SLASHER SQUAD is our love letter to the films that shaped our creative perspectives. There’s action, thrills, humour and of course ass-kicking femme fatales! We’ve had heaps of fun writing the script and planning the short and now we need YOU to get involved.

 

WHY ARE WE CROWDFUNDING?

The world of SLASHER SQUAD is rich in atmosphere, mystery and suspense, so it needs to look fantastic! But it’s also packed with dynamic action, requiring stunts, fight choreography and both practical and digital fx. With SLASHER SQUAD, we want to give you an engaging, feature-quality short. Now, with your help, we’ve been given a rare opportunity to make this happen…

QUADRUPLED FUNDING

SLASHER SQUAD has been selected by our local screen funding body, ScreenWest, to have our target QUADRUPLED – but we’re competing against other filmmaking teams for a limited pot. It’s a race – whoever raises their full target first gets the cash. We need that to be us!

If we reach our crowdfunding target but miss out on the additional quadrupled money, we’ll have to raise the extra cash in other ways, which will be no easy task. And the worst case scenario: as this is an all-or-nothing campaign, if we don’t reach our crowdfunding target by the deadline we won’t receive any money pledged.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKERS

Nate and Stu are the writers and directors of SLASHER SQUAD. Over the past 15 years they worked together in VFX, animation, short films and screenwriting. In 2011 they established Double Barrel VFX in Perth, a boutique animation and VFX studio, and have since worked on local, national and international projects. Their next project is the VFX for Zak Hilditch’s apocalyptic feature film THESE FINAL HOURS, shot in Perth, Western Australia.
