Synopsis
A tragic accident, a fractured mind, a body healed by an experimental technology.
A young woman becomes supernaturally linked to the horrors of her past. Haunted, hunted, harrowed, she must uncover the truth in order to be free.
The story of Remnant revolves around Grace, a young woman whose life has been turned upside down by tragedy.
When Grace returns home to the family farm to rebuild her shattered life, her world begins to unravel as a series of strange events haunt her, pushing Grace to the edge of madness. A mysterious figure lurks in the shadows and a ghostly woman appears in the darkness of night.
Is Grace imagining these apparitions, or are they a warning of a nightmare still to come?

A word from the Director
I would like to personally invite you to join me in making REMNANT, my upcoming feature film debut. I am passionate about filmmaking and have a love of horror and sci-fi. I want to make the most amazing horror film that we possibly can.
My wife, Sandie, and I are so passionate about making REMNANT, that we have financed the production with our own money! You can see that we're not asking you to put your money into something we haven't already personally and financially backed ourselves. We believe in this film, the amazingly talented cast and the brilliantly creative crew. We're so excited to be filming in June and July 2022 in Mudgee, NSW. Yes, REMNANT is 100% an Australian production.
YOU can be an integral part of this project. Your help is vital to enable me to bring my vision to the screen. Your financial contribution will help to finance key aspects of the post-production, including:
- VFX (Visual Effects)
My Director Of Photography maestro, Mason Grady, is our Visual Effects designer on REMNANT. My vision for REMNANT has always been to use extensive practical special makeup effects. Mason will enhance the practical makeup FX and elevate them to the highest level. He'll also work his VFX magic for other key scenes. - Colour Grading
REMNANT has a distinct look with a unique visual palette. It was always my aim to create a style reminiscent of the classic Italian horror films like Deep Red and Suspiria, from the master of horror, Dario Argento. My amazing Director Of Photography, Mason Grady, shares my passion for this unique style and will also be our Colourist. - Original Film Score
James Vader, a brilliant Australian composer, is producing some amazing original music for REMNANT. With a musical style reminiscent of John Carpenter and the Goblins, REMNANT will have a unique filmscore that will elevate the terror in the film. - Sound Design
James Vader, our talented composer, will also be involved in sound design on REMNANT. James will enhance the mood, atmosphere and tone of REMNANT. He will do this by adding sound effects (SFX), mixing, Foley sound design, dialogue, and of course the music. - Editing
Film editing is the art and craft of cutting and assembling the finished film. Andrew Davis, our Producer, will be taking on this task with my assistance.
Your support will also enable us to submit REMNANT to important film festivals, as well as market and distribute the film to audiences in Australia and internationally.
In return for your support we are offering unparalleled access to behind-the-scenes content, and a range of other unique reward options including props used in the film. You will become a "REMNANT VIP" with exclusive access to interviews with the cast and crew during production, updates of the day's film progress, maybe even some out-takes/bloopers!
Film props on offer include a limited number of custom knives used in the film, autographed by the actor, and beautifully boxed. There are also gravestones, and other custom made props from the film. You can even be an Extra, work as a Production Assistant or be an Associate Producer!
A quick note on the locations. We are proud and excited to announce that one of our main locations in Mudgee is the iconic Regent Theatre, pictured above. We are also filming in the historical Old Post Office Cottage, and the beautiful Frog Rock. In Gosford, we will be filming in several privately owned locations.

Special Effects- Makeup & Visual
OUTLAW FILMS is collaborating with CONTOUR COLLEGE to design the Special Makeup Effects needed to create the horror and mystery of REMNANT. Contour College teaches SFX makeup for film. Course coordinator and SFX makeup artist Caroline Gey is working with independent SFX makeup artist Ashleigh Grimshaw to design and create a range of prosthetics that will result in some very scary scenes. Their work on REMNANT is also giving SFX makeup students an opportunity to work on a live film set as part of their course. The collaboration between OUTLAW FILMS and CONTOUR COLLEGE has enabled the college to receive additional funding grants for special short courses in SFX makeup.
Visual Effects Designer (and DOP) Mason Grady will use his creative genius to design some of the additional horror sequences dreamed up by Mike's vivid imagination, that just can't be replicated in real life. He will also enhance the breathtaking makeup effects where required, to make it all look even scarier. Mason is also planning some incredible 3D animation, but you'll have to see the film to find out more about that.

About Remnant
OUTLAW FILMS, is a small family film production company, based in the beautiful NSW Central Coast. Set up by Mike and Sandie Horan, their mission is to create unique Australian horror films, while encouraging and supporting local and emerging talent in the Australian film industry.
REMNANT is their debut feature film. Mike's dream of many years has been to make his own film. As a big fan of the horror and sci-fi genres, his first film was obviously going to be horror. The REMNANT script was originally a short film titled "After Grace". Mike soon realised the story was too complex for a short film format, and REMNANT the feature film was born.
Even since then, there have been a lot of rewrites. REMNANT was originally written around an abandoned, rundown shopping centre, which happens to be just down the road from where Mike lives. After being approved to use the shopping centre for the film, management changed and the approval was withdrawn, so we had a mad hunt for a replacement location. Covid intervened and it was impossible to pin down any locations until just this year, 2022. Hence the latest rewrite of the script, which is now set in stone.

Mike and Sandie took leave from their regular employment with a view to getting this film made. Production of REMNANT was scheduled for 2020, but that year was a total wipeout, and production was postponed 3 times. Initially the plan was to make the film predominantly Central Coast based, but that changed when they had to broaden our search for talent.
Covid changed how the whole pre-production process was to progress. Casting and crew calls were put out over Facebook and interviews were done via Zoom. Cast auditions were recorded by the actors, and submitted to OUTLAW FILMS. To say we were absolutely blown away by the quality of submissions we received would be an understatement. We screened and auditioned over 200 potential actors, and came up with our final 10. Let's just say they all have a spectacular future ahead.
OUTLAW FILMS has been really lucky to have Andrew Davis on the production team from the beginning. Andrew was one of Mike's students from the Diploma of Media and Communication course at Meadowbank TAFE, in 2012. He always displayed a passion of being involved in Mike's film, and even though a few years had elapsed, was ready to go. Andrew has been integral to the pre-production, taking on the role of Producer, Editor and whatever else is needed.
So here we are. It's May, crowdfunding time, and we're shooting in a few weeks.
