I'm asking for your help to fund a project to get Hobart bands into the hearts and record collections of more fans.

You know the story, there's plenty of good bands out there. 

Getting music out on vinyl is a pretty big investment for bands.

How do you move on from uploading an .mp3 on social media to having fans support a full-blown album release?

How could you resist a thirteen track* LP with all these wonderful Hobart bands.

*There are only so many tracks that will physically fit on a 12" LP. All bands will also be available on a CD and for download.

All of the money will be going to the pressing of 300 12" Lp's. 

It costs $3100 +GST for 300 copies. Plus freight to Hobart. 

This will be done locally, by Zenith Records, in Melbourne.

There are no more costs involved, other than sending copies to interstate record stores to sell. And that will be factored into the wholesale price.

All the preproduction costs have been donated (by me) or met by the other bands.

The bands have submitted studio or live recordings, ready to go.

I am compiling the tracks, and preparing the audio for Zenith. I have successfully prepared audio for full length LP's with Zenith on two previous LP's and the results have been great!

I am prepared to meet any costs to get this record pressed, beyond what is covered by the Pozible project. But this should be enough.

The Record will be launched at a gig, where the record will be sold and the bands promoted. 

I see the record as a valuable addition to the music lover's collection, and also as a promotional tool for the bands to get their music out there, to a much wider audience than they would reach with a one song single. Together we can work more magic! The album will show just how strong and alive the Hobart music scene is in 2016/17.

The main challenge is keeping to a tight 3 month schedule from idea to reord!

It's good to keep things current. 

Also, I want this LP to be released while the Arts celebration that is MoFo rocks our Island state in mid-January, 2017.

Bands were contacted via Facebook to be invited to submit songs for the compilation.

The result was fantastic! There are too many songs than can fit on one LP. Extra tracks will be added to the CD version of this release and also on the Bandcamp (digital) sales.

Twelve active, playing bands are involved in the project. Every gig each band plays is an opportunity to sell the LP on the merch table.

Each of the twelve bands have their own online Bandcamp sales page for selling music merchandise. 

With 300 copies pressed, divided by twelve bands, each band would potentially have 25 records to sell. (Let's hope that each band has fans who will pre-sale purchace an LP here on Pozible, securing their copy of this limited edition. The bands do not have to sell them on their own. There are bricks and mortar record stores willing to take stock and online distribution waiting to take copies.

As well as Bandcamp sales, each of the twelve bands are currently playing and will be selling records at their own gigs.

There will be a record launch gig, involving as many of the twelve bands as possible in a day-long gig in Hobart to celebrate the release and the efforts of everyone.

The LP WILL BE ready for January release, and be ready for the peak tourist season in Hobart, and the muisc and arts loving crowds that are attracted to MONA FOMA and other festivals and events staged in January.  We will be ready! The record is coming out on  Hobart's independent label, Cubbyhouse records, https://www.facebook.com/Cubbyhouse-470612063139556/,that has distribution interstate. brick and mortar record stores. Other bands are on other labels which will involve some extra distribution, such as Wrong Place Records. http://wrongplacerecords.tumblr.com/ .The whole idea of the record is to raise the profile of Hobarts bands to find a much wider listening audience. So we want to work with as many people as possible to get the record heard, and in record collections.

The money raised with this record sale will go on to produce more Hobart bands. The sky is the limit, literally, as one of the bands, HEART BEACH, now plan to relocate to Canada after having success  with their recordings there.

Two Hobart record stores are willing to stock the LP, and more retail places are being organised, such as Edge radio's  Sunday market stall in the CBD. Mona will also be approached to support the project.

Between 12 bands, and all their fans, I don't think we will have a problem selling 300 albums. Starting off with 25 LP's and if you sell 2 a month, there will be none left by the end of the year. And to sell out of stock in a year is an achievement.

The whole publicity for the project, besides word of mouth and local buzz, is via Facebook. Don't overlook the power of social media to swoop on a project and take it over. For instance, Pete's picks, my page has only 500 likes, but a vibrant live music loving community.  If only 10% of this group buy an album, we have sold 50! But since this is the first vinyl compilation of Hobart bands since....EVER? Larger groups like Vinyl Horders United, https://www.facebook.com/groups/vinylhoardersunited/, get interested, and they have 10,000 likes. If only one HALF of a percentage of that group buy a record, we will sell 50 records. 300 is a really limited run when it comes to album sales, and it will be promoted as such. Get in while you can.

While a vinyl format compilation album of Hobart bands will be finally available in 2017.

It is un-ashamedly NOT trying to be all things to all music genres in Southern Tasmania, like previous CD compilations, such as Amplified or Community, as great as they are.

This is a curated, chosen lovely collection of just 12 songs for a lucky 300 record collections. 

The tracks on this album will be unique, not on previous material.
