Hello and thank you for checking out my project!
As you can probably tell from the cover image, I love drawing animals! I'm an illustrator and writer and I'm seeking support to self-publish my first illustrated book. My business is called Red Parka Designs and I will be self-publishing under this name. It's all very exciting!!
The book will be a collection of 50 illustrated collective nouns from the animal kingdom. I have drawn most of these already over the last year or so, some of which I have sold as prints in my online store or at artist markets that I attend. Completing all 50 of these and publishing them as a beautiful, hard cover book has long been a dream of mine so I hope you can help me to make it happen!
(This is one of the images I have already drawn, but please note the font/layout will be a little different in the book.)
As a lover of the quirky nature of the English language, I will also be writing a short history of collective nouns and how they have developed, as well as doing my research to ensure I use the correct terms. As such, this book is designed not only to entertain with my brightly coloured illustrations but also to educate children and adults alike in one of the more unique aspects of our language.
I am seeking $5000 in funding through Pozible. This will mostly be spent on the initial printing cost of 500 copies (full colour, high quality, hard cover books), with the remainder for set up fees, related publishing costs (ISBN purchases etc) and marketing costs. Any money raised over $5000 will be used to increase my marketing capacity and if required, print further copies. Any further money left over at the end of the project will be reinvested in my next book, which is already well underway in my head!! So if you like the rewards on offer please feel free to keep pledging - you can be sure your money will be put to very good use!
I am self-publishing this book in Australia so I will retain 100% control over it's design, distribution and marketing. I have done a lot of research into the best way of doing this, including being listed on international book databases as well as online stores such as Amazon so my book will be visable to bookstores worldwide as well as international buyers to give it it's best chance of success. I will initially be printing 500 copies as well as setting up an eBook format and a print-on-demand system for wholesaling and ongoing sales, and I have a marketing plan in place ready to action when the book is ready.
I see this as an opportunity to take my very small but thriving business to the next level, allowing me to draw and create more things that make my world, and hopefully yours too, a little brighter!
I am a self-employed artist and writer from Tasmania, Australia, who loves bright colours, animals, adventures, road trips and everything colourful and creative. I am fuelled by copious amounts of coffee and I am my happiest when I'm drawing. Publishing a book has been a dream of mine for so long and I am beyond excited to see my little quirky drawings grow and develop into a book worthy of publishing! I have a background in event management, advertising, graphic design and marketing and have done a Diploma of Editing & Publishing, all of which contributes to me being well and truly ready to take this next step in my own business by publishing my first book!
See my website www.redparka.com.au for more information about me or you can read probably more than you ever wanted to know about me and my art on my blog at www.redparka.blogspot.com
Here's a few more of my drawings to give you an idea of what the book will be like! I hope you like them!
To all of you who support my work by pledging and/or sharing my project with your networks, thank you so much! It means the world to me!
Thank you x
