TARGET REACHED, thank you to all  of our supporters, each and everyone of you has my deepest gratitude.  This is a wonderful result for the Wallace Rockhole Pottery there will more beautiful pots coming out of the centre of Australia.  Money can still be donated right up until 30th May 2015 at noon, all of the funds raised will be used for this project.  Big hugs for you all, thank you.

Welcome to my Pozible site.  I need your financial help to continue the Wallace Rockhole Pottery for 2015.

For the fifth continuous year, I am going back to Wallace Rockhole, a small Aranda Aboriginal Community in central Australia, 120 kilometres west of Alice Springs, NT, where I will stay for four months to teach pottery.

The Wallace Rockhole Pottery was established in 2011 and is a place of quiet respect and pride wherein great things happen. In a happy and creative environment, each person is encouraged to work on their own projects independently, gaining confidence as their individual styles emerge. Each potter is also encouraged to make, decorate and glaze their own work. All of the pots are high fired to 1285C in an electric kiln. Some pots go home, some are given away as gifts and some are sold in the Art Centre at Wallace Rockhole. Each person makes their own decision on their own work.

At the request of the community no Government, State, Territory or Federal funds are used for the pottery. For the Wallace Rockhole Pottery to continue, it is totally dependent on my fund raising for not only the cost of the materials (we are now well into our second ton of clay) and equipment for the pottery, but for me to continue with this project, I too need some financial support as my personal funds are limited and I am solely reliant on my aged pension. I need assistance with the running costs of my car and caravan as I drive and tow my van from my home in Southeast Queensland to the Northern Territory (my speedo usually shows over 20,000 km covered for each journey) plus I still maintain my share of my home base in Queensland whilst I am away. My small van becomes my home when I am at Wallace Rockhole. This year I also have the added expense of going via Canberra because on July 10th I will be presenting my project about Wallace Rockhole Pottery at The Australian Ceramic Triennale Conference - Stepping Up. My presentation is in Your Role in the Future - Community and is themed Giving Back.

During the four months that I am at the community, the Pottery Studio is open free of charge to anyone from Wallace Rockhole and the surrounding outstations. Everyone is welcome in the pottery and is encouraged to sit down and make pots - young or old, male or female. Anyone who would like to hand-build, sculpt or wheel-throw with clay is welcome. A special pottery program is run each year for the local school. During the programme, it is obvious that shared good-will is evident through inspired work output. The Primary School children love their participation with pottery. Once again this year, the children at the Wallace Rockhole Primary School will attend the studio for formal pottery classes. Two afternoons each week during school time are set aside for the school; one afternoon is for the junior class and the other for the senior class. The Pottery Studio is also open to the children to pop in and be creative after school hours but we have the rule, No school; no pottery. Usually in the community there are no organised activities outside of school hours for the children but by having the studio open, I can fill a void in their young lives, giving them a sense of pride and achievement in the pots they create. Sadly the children have to leave the community and board elsewhere to attend secondary school as the local school is only up to Grade 6. The children and I have fun together and they love to help recycle the clay and be in the studio.  Like flies, they appear at every opportunity.  If the studio is too busy for the children they are shooed out one door and pop in through another entrance and next thing you know, they have snuck up to the tables and have wormed into a corner, laughter reigns and once again the kids have won!

I will email our story to you plus photos so you can share in the happiness and wonder as these good folk realise that they too have value, and that by working hard at this project their work can stand equally beside any ceramic item being produced elsewhere.

I ask for no remuneration from the community or the school for my skills as a pottery teacher. What I have to offer, I give freely. With your financial help this project will continue to inspire, be creative and have positive outcomes. What a wonderful result.

Rewards for you

You are invited to tick a Reward box. These ‘Thank You Gifts’ are for various amounts that you may like to donate and will only be posted after the target is reached and Pozible has made a successful capture of your money.

The rewards are either made by the potters at Wallace Rockhole or me or a combination of both.  The rewards are a gift, not a purchase.  Please accept what has been sent to you in good faith with good cheer.  A lot of thought and time has been spent on this part of the project.

All supporters will also receive a regular emailed newsletter full of updates, stories and pictures as this year’s journey to the Wallace Rockhole Pottery unfolds.

How The Funds Will Be Used

Rest assured that 100% of your donation is being used for this cause. Your support brings so much joy to everyone at this little overlooked, red dusty community in the heart of Australia.

From all funds raised Pozible deducts a 5% fee for hosting projects and Paypal also takes a small fee.

The Challenges

I see no challenges to this project other than not reaching the target of $12 500.

Pozible is a great way to fund creative and worthwhile endeavours. It is powered by a unique all or nothing funding method. Projects must be fully funded. In other words, the target must be reached, or no money changes hands. If my target of $12,500 in 40 days is not reached, your pledge is cancelled; your card is not billed. It is as if nothing has happened. If I don’t raise my goal of $12,500, I cannot collect any of the pledged funds.  If this happens, the pottery studio at Wallace Rockhole would cease to function, as there would be no kiln firings, no clay, no glaze or studio materials and I would not be able to get to Wallace Rockhole.

Pozible is a very safe, hazard free website. I have used Pozible in 2014, 2013 and 2012 for running previous successful campaigns for the Wallace Rockhole Pottery.  I have also personally supported many other worthwhile projects on Pozible as you are now supporting me.

NOTE: Only with your financial help will the Wallace Rockhole Pottery be able to continue in 2015.
