G’day everyone. My name’s Lindsey Colla – And I want to ride 900 kilometres through the Australian Outback… on a unicycle. That’s right… one wheel – not two.

Last year, I put it at the top of the list learn how to ride a Unicycle and ride well enough to make it to the local shops and back without crashing before the year is out

Turns out unicycling is actually a much quicker learning curve than I expected having accomplished my goal and much more now riding many of the local mountain bike trails.

I’ve now set my heights higher. I want to ride 900 kilometres through the Australian Outback over 16 days along the Mawson Trail – all the way from Adelaide to the town of Blinman through the epic Outback landscape of the Flinders Ranges.

If you don't believe it's epic... just look at this photo. It's going to be tough stuff on a one wheel.

And yes - while I believe the trip will push me to my absolute limits... I'm also doing it for a good cause. I'm seeking to raise awareness and funds for Hans Rey's Wheels 4 Life Charity, which supplies bikes to people in developing nations. A bike can provide reliable transportation to people in need, helping them find work, get to school or provide services such as health care to other members of their community. Hans founded Wheels 4 Life as a way to give back to many of the people he had met while travelling the globe as a pioneering trials rider and a Mountain Bike adventurer.

How The Funds Will Be Used

I've got the unicycle - I've got the gear. But I need food, accommodation and support along the route.

I'll be getting all my support from South Australia's peak cycling body - Bicycle SA - but it will cost me as I'll be taking part in their Outback Odyssey event.

The more I'm funded - the further I'll go.

-$800 will go get me 5 days along the Trail. (From Adelaide to Burra)
-$1745 will get me 11 days from all the way to the South Flinders Ranges (Fromm Adelaide to Melrose)
-$2125 will get me the full 19 days along the trail (From Adelaide to Blinman)

(You can see a full breakdown of the prices here.)

Anything that goes above and beyond $2125 will be donated to the charity Wheels 4 Life, for whom I will also be raising money for along the way.

The Challenges

The hardest part about the trip is going to be the pain factor. It's going to be a long way - and mighty, mighty sore on the crutch. But rest assured - I've been training very, very hard - long rides up Adelaide's biggest peak (Mt Lofty) as well as swimming, spin classes and some seriously hardcore yoga. I'm in prime physical shape - and it's all going to be about keeping a strong mind.
